Thought i'd post a few pics of what i riged up on Sunday just to get me by till i make a real projector. I'm using a Syncmaster 570V and a 9700 RM projector run off a Dell 1.4 P4. This will all be torn apart when i'm done building the aluminium frame and panels for the "real deal". tongue.gif

Here's a pic of what it's projecting onto and a few screen shots. Hope this is all ok to post in here. Not bad for about $200 CND so far.

Images are brighter, sharper and a little straighter in person. biggrin.gif

Duct tape to the rescue!!!
Better get some bailing wire in there to make sure. tongue.gif

Just kidding, the pictures look great! What ever works is good enough. Given what you've shown I'm wondering if a full project would be that much better???

Well i only spent an hour and a half, including ripping the monitor apart so it's not bad. Only 4000 lumens so i'm guessing i get about 300ish after lcd and tempered glass. The new one i'll be using the standard 400 watt MH so it sould be easly watchable with the lights on. Thanks for the comments, it's just great to have a 106" tv for cheap. tongue.gif

I don't remeber where, but someone's project was like yours and they ripped ou the standard OHP bulb and replaced it with a MH bulb, so if all you need is more lumens you might jusr get away with that instead of scratch building a PJ. Maybe you enjoy woodwork and all, but if I could get a quick and dirty PJ working at low $$ and minimal effort I'd go for it. biggrin.gif

Woodwork and i don't see eye to eye so to speak. biggrin.gif I'm a bodyman by trade so i'm just going to stick with what i know metal. I'll be building it out of alminium 3/4" angle and 1/16 sheet. The projector will include the computer with tv tuner card and be fully adjustable for keystone and hieght. It will all be free stuff from work so the only cost will be for the ballast and the tequila for my welding buddy. Just wanted something to watch while the GF was watching my 53" rear projection.

Hey Clinton,
Nice starter pj. What kind of tv tuner card are you going to be getting. I would recommend an Hdtv one. I just bought a Fusion II for $80 and it was worth every penny, you don't want to be looking at static the size of your fist on a 100" screen!
good luck

You may use some parts from your OHP to solve keystoning issues.

What keystoneingissues? If your talking about the angle it's just the way i had the camera positioned. Screen is just fine no keystoning needed. I will be using the fresnel and the triplet out of the OHP for my project.

As for the TV card it's just a standard MSI TV@nywhere card as i don't have a HD sorce right now it's just crappy cable for the time being.

you miss understood what I said My point was if your OHP is going to be a scrap you can use any parts to build your LL PJ I exactly don't know how OHP works but I was thinking if you use the mirror and anything ells you may come up with a better LL PJ.

Got ya, wink.gif i already have a plan just need to find the time to build it. Never seem to have enough.

Hi..

How did you deal with the lcd getting too hot?? I presume that it would.

Also, I've been looking at the lights for overhead projectors and many have only 50 to 75 hrs life. Although they're cheap to replace that seems like an annoying amount of time to deal with. Could your replace it with a MH?

Clinton, are you going to follow the same shape when you build your pj? I'm using an OHP/LCD Panel myself until I collect all the parts for my vertical 15" pj and I like the lines on your temporary setup.

Hey there, this is a pretty neat way to test this out. I think that I am going ot do this as well to see if I like it before I spend the time building a deluxe system.

I do have a question for you: How did you use the Syncmaster 570V?

I have one that I have disassembled, but there was a ribbon cable that went over one corner of the LCD. I disconnected the cable to get the back light off, but I when I put it back, the cable covers a portion of the screen!

How did you get around this?

Thanks!
