I don't know if someone already mentioned this, but I was reading about the new macmini and this just screams out at me to be part of the projector. It's small (6.5"x6.5"x2"), presumeably quiet, has a DVD player, and will work with any monitor (although you probably need a dvi to vga adapter).

Now granted they cost starting at $500, but if you could afford it I think it would be a perfect addition to the ol' home theatre.

Dude, thats awesome!

I was planning on building a shuttle box or TVPC
But this is smaller, and it runs 10.3, So this might be my next investment. I'm not familiar with upgrading macs, but I can imagine it would be about the same as IBM compatible.
Thanks for posting the link!

BTW: It has a VGA output. Look under specs for a pic of the back panel

Only problem i can see with this little unit, is there is only a headphone jack out which means no 5.1.

I'd rather have a micro ATX with an Audigy sound card, and an ATI video card.

did anyone pick up on the fact that the Macworld 2005 presentation screen was (per Steve Jobs) projected in "High Definition."

Now do you suppose that he built himself a lumenlab pj and saved a couple bucks?... hmmm

[of course I'm just kidding, but it would be cool]

I love Macs, but you can forget about upgrades on that machine save adding RAM and maybe a bigger hard drive.

Oh, that's a good point. I'm sure you could probably get some sort of external USB sound device but that might make it not really worth the price for what you're getting.

It's still kind of cool though... for a Mac.

This is what someone posted in another forum I belong too...

Small enough to fit in your pocket, Transit brings hi-resolution 24-bit/96kHz recording and playback to any USB-compatible computer. Digital I/O lets you transfer pristine audio between your computer and other devices such as MiniDisc and DAT. The digital output can deliver AC-3 and DTS from your computer to an external decoder such as a surround receiver. And the bus-powered design allows you play and record virtually anywhere your laptop can go. Transit is your ticket to ride.

> “Overall, [M-Audio] Transit proved to be a real winner. Its performance far outstripped its laughably low price tag, and we can see many gigging musicians finding it a viable solution to their laptop audio needs. We encountered no troubles with any of the applications we threw at it, and its portability is a real plus. We have seen these going for as little as $79, and that makes them [M-Audio Transit] pretty irresistible in our book.”

If you want small & 5.1 sound, tv-out, etc. & a 100% IBM compatible (so you can run windows tongue.gif) then look at the VIA EPIA range of motherboards

for those interested, i did some searching and found a way to get the mac mini surround sound via firewire.

pretty friggin' sweet if you ask me...

FIREWAVE

and HERE

They missed a big opportunity by not including optical out on the mini. Oh well. Its obvious that Griffin had the heads up on this one though, because the FireWave's style matches the mini perfectly. The Mac mini is no powerhouse, but it just might find its way into my home theater.
