I asked this before but had recieved no reply dull topic I guess. In folding designs basically I understand it is to reduce size got it, and I also understand that past 2 folds there is not realy any more downsizing you could get. Now the prism so many different types can these optics be used to reduce the size of the light engine.

I'm not sure, they are used in a commercial projector I have though.

Prisms could reduce the size but the light has to pass thru a lot of glass which even with optical glass looses more brightness for increased thickness. For the types of projectors we are building the light expands from the point source to fill the LCD so to be really helpful the prisms would need to be large and prisms are generally only and couple of inches in size, and get pretty expensive pretty quickly. So prisms could help make things smaller but this would be the number of lumens and the size of your wallet before the size of the projector.

You may want to check out the site, "All in Box". Most of the members are from Europe, and typically use smaller LCD screens. Since commercial units utilize prizms, as they are smll, then you might find someone using a prism in these pjs too. Since I found this site yesterday, I found many new and different ideas.

Yah, good site. I use google to translate the pages and browse the PLOGs as I'm building an 8" myself. There are some interesting builds on that site, though most of the small ones are horizontals folds.

I'm building a 7" myself and have been checking out Allinbox as well as IzzoTek.

Some of the products IzzoTek offers are just simply custom built solutions for people who dont want to go to the trouble or dont have the tools. One such thing is their Lilli 7" and fresnel holders here which I will be using photos of to duplicate with aluminum sheet from 2 scrapped full tower computer cases.

Quite a nice site, albeit a bit expensive for my taste as they are overseas.

I inherited a broken commercial projector and noticed that a lot of the focusing lenses and stuff are prisms.

DaveT3000,

How do you get Google to translate the pages?
