the fan on one of my power supplies stopped working (seized actually!!) and now the PS does not work....... any idea which part would most likely be gone? (not the fuse, already checked..) a cap, diode?

was wondering if anyone has experience in repairing them, or should i just buy another?

i got TON's of crap in my basement, old PS and various computer parts and should have the required part if i only knew what to look for.

thanks for any info guy's!

with the cost of power supplies today, i would just replace. that gets you back up and running. then you can tinker and see what you can come up with. if your not running a high demand pc then you can get away with a 300w power supply for about $15 or less. but for repairing it, what if you replaced the fan or jsut cleaned the funk out of it that made it seize. there maybe a circuit that is completed with the fan running to keep the power supply on, so if the fan fails the power supply shuts down and doesnt start a nice fire.

be warned, these comments were all before my first cup of coffee, so who knows what my brain is thinking wink.gif

you know, i was thinking the same thing about the fan causing the power supply to shut down, i will replace it and see what happens.

as for cleaning it, funny thing is it really is clean inside already, most that i have taken apart are usually full of crud and dust bunnies (hehe!) but not this one, really clean.

anyways, thanks for the advice.
