The immediate answer of course is yes but.......

I have an x2vga thingy which works really well, i play games watch dvds etc and benefit from my 5.1ss. but.. I can notice that the dvd playback is only in 640x480, and of course my lcd only goes up to 1024x768.

Now i understand a scaler will take the signal inputted and then convert it into a progressive scanned image, but with the initial inputted image at 640x480 would i notice much difference.

The times i notice it the most is when i have a slow moving image diagonally on my screen, e.g. when the camera pans and tree branchs dont look as crisp.

Ive thought about using my pc for dvd playback but i then dont have a remote or a 5.1 output.

does anyone think a scaler would increase quaility, or should i use my pc and if so what kinda kit do i need to get.

Im from the UK FYI and thanks for listening (reading)
