hi all, new to this place, seen it mentioned on a newsgroup a while ago and looked very interesting, so I decided to sign up and build one smile.gif

My only experience with using a projector is a friends old Proxima 640x480 which sounds like a tornado when it's switched on, the times I borrowed it I couldn't use it for long because it affected my tinnitus, so how loud/quiet are these homebuilt projectors?

I've spent a lot of money at quietpc.com on new cases & quiet fans/PSUs for my PCs so I could continue to use them without making my tinnitus worse, I'd hate to spend the effort building a projector to find out I couldn't use it.

I'm in the UK so will be heading to the UK specific threads for more info/help on where to source parts (found an LCD screen on ebuyer which fits the bill, just need to get the money & parts...)

I believe your main source of noise will be the fans for cooling in the box and ballast that you use. Some magnetic coil ballasts can give off a low hum, which may or may not be percetible to the human ear outside the box. Electronic ballasts should be a bit more quiet. I would start here at the fan thread and go from there.
