Scan converter with component for $39. If it makes a decent picture it would quite a bargain for 15" builders. If someone grabs one please report back here.

I have a friend who has one of these just to play video games on his 17 inch monitor. I asked him about it and he told me that the quality is horrible. He had me look at the screen while he was playing Vice City, and sure enough the resolution looked bad. It almost seemed like I was watching a DivX movie. Just kind of hazy. I wouldn't recommend this product. Better off saving and getting an N6.

Aha, it is too good to be true. Thanks for the update and if someone else has experience please report.
maddmike
It could have looked bad because he was using RCA in? The xbox has component output too, did he try that? Of course the image quality will be bad with a normal rca signal.
brainchild
Quite true.
Ktrum161
He was using RCA inputs. It would be interesting to see how it would look with an S-video cable.
Ktrum161
By component, do you mean S-video? I only saw the RCA connection and the S-video so I am assuming the component connection you are speaking of is the S-video. Can you clarify this for me? Thanks!

No, component and S-video are two different animals. See pic: (Note: this is NOT a pic of the Dragon PLUS's input panel, just a pic to show the different inputs)
Ktrum161
Ok, I see that it has 5 seperate inputs. 2 for audio, and 3 for video. Sorry! I still didn't see these inputs on the unit.

So what is the absolute best connection for picture quality?
mpemba
I think right now it is a toss up between VGA(analog) and DVI (digital).
But for future compatibility/upgrade-ability probably DVI.

But, as always, it's not that simple.
Enter high definition content protection HDCP.
It is basically a way to limit the copying of copy righted material.
This leads to high definition multimedia interface HDMI, which is DVI
which utilizes HDCP.

And since (at least for right now) the Digital to Analog converters
VGA utilizes are good enough so you can't really notice much
of a difference between it and DVI, VGA seems like it might be the best.

So technically: DVI, but practically: VGA.
Depending on your personal feelings on Digital Rights Management.

Thanks Mpemba. Lots of good info!

Well, I attempted to get and try one of these, but the-console-corner.com seems to only be good at taking your order, running your card, and claiming to ship. One bogus tracking number, two weeks lapse, and no response from the company and I'm trying to recover my $40. Live and learn (and check resellerratings.com).

Since you paid with a card, hopefully a charge card, forget dealing with the company itself. Call your credit card company and follow channels to have the charges reversed due to failure to fulfill the order, nonreceipt, etc.

DO NOT ORDER FROM THE-CONSOLE-CORNER

They are crooks. I ordered a VGA adapter from them and they said it was no longer available. I cancelled my order 4 times via email with no response. They then proceeded to send me a different VGA adapter than I ordered (which was TERRIBLE). I had to do a chargeback on my credit card and I also sold the VGA adapter on Ebay. Chalk up one for the buyer on this one!!

Lik-Sang is great. I highly recommend this box:

http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=...ducts_id=4233&&

Full progressive scan support. It is a little tough to tweak at first (has odd jumpers and a simple screw adjustment) but once you get it tweaked it should be good. I did not use it on a projector seeing as how I am still waiting for my lenses and lamp but I can attest to it working great for TV/games.

I jumped the gun and iimmediately ordered the VGA converter from console corner. They sent me something else. It looks like a really nice component/HD/ethernet switch box. ACtually very impressive.. but not whatt I wanted.

Well, I liked this progressive Scan converter when I was shopping around, but wound up getting the Prolink PlayTV Box 3 instead cause of getting more options. Although now, I am wondering if I made a mistake. I haven't got the Play TV Box 3 yet, but it should be coming tomorrow. I am concerned because it does not have progressive scan and it's sort of the "poor man's" N6. Does anyone know about this and if I should consider returning it and getting this converter (the progressive scan that everyone is raving about)? I originally was getting the converter solely for my PS2, but then when I saw I could get component inputs and the TV Tuner with the PlayTVBox3 I thought it was worth the extra 10 bucks. Anyone know if I made a mistake, I didn't think my brand new PS2 would be able to utilize progressive scan so opted against it. Any ideas?
Jughead
Well, nevermind - I looked further into the PLayTvBox3 and it doesn have progressive scan capability so that is good. I guess the question is if this is a good product or not and I don't think there are that many people out there who have bought it yet, it's a fairly new product...
