hello everyone,
well i am getting fusterated trying to find a lcd panel.
correction... i can find panels but every time i find one
that is compatable either from ebay or an online store
and i read the feedback of the sellers... ouch....
i cant believe the things i am reading. ohmy.gif

so i would like to open up a thread for us as a reference
with our own feed back on sellers.
if you bought your lcd already and have some thing to say
about the seller please tell us where you got it, and rate them
so we all wont get @#%$ over.

thanks guy's cool.gif

p.s. batlin i know you've got something to say
batlin
lol ya...
Biggest piece of advice would be don't assume anything. In my case I assumed when he said it came with a power adapter it was one that was for the LCD.. lol. blink.gif

I think that is a good idea to make a thread just for sellers we have had good and bad experiences with. It is pretty hard to find one that you would want to trust with $350-500+ (depending on the monitor). Personally after this last monitor experience I just decided to buy new. With any luck I'll get my $399 back.

I should be getting the LTN-1565 in next Weds. I found the seller through eBay, but bought it through his website. This seller doesn't say much when you talk to him via e-mail, but he sure does seem to be quick on the shipping side, and everything is brand new, factory sealed, and has full factory warranty. (That is until you rip it apart laugh.gif ) I'll let everyone know if my order turns out all right. He was the least expensive I could find on the internet that didn't make me wonder if what I was getting was "taken" ph34r.gif off the back of a truck.
batlin
I guess I'll start the "Do not buy list"

ebay seller: ronnyvivi
Auction Link: Click HERE
LCD Panel: Samsung LTN1555
Total loss: $28.00 shipping to me & $14.00 shipping back to him (IF I get a $399 refund....)

Auction was very deceiving. Home made power adapter (wrong voltage Dell laptop adapter), monitor color washed out, and in very (very!) used condition. Not acceptable for this projector. I've sent the LTN1555 back and he should have it sometime next week so expect early March to see him trying to sell it on eBay again! <-- Watch out for him!

Product: CMV 15 TFT

Culprit: www.web-systems.co.uk

Story:

I ordered as some of you may know from this shambolic UK company. I won't over-elaborate what happened, they are not worth my grief. Ok, they are. Here goes...

> Ordered CMV 1515
> Emailed website about the fact they had not updated their site, and that it still said the CMV would be in stock 'in 3 days'. No reply.
> After 13 days, the money was taken from account for the order.
> 4 Days later, having heard nothing from them, I gave them a ring. I was passed from pillar to post, no-one seemed to know what they or I was talking about, I felt like I had rung a monkey sanctuary. I was told I'd be contacted when they found out if they were getting any in stock. Confused? I was too...
> another 3 days, zilch. Rang them again. Spoke to a snotty little man called Sean who was very short tempered. Said they didn't have any and would not get any. Fine I thought, just gimme a refund and I'll pick up a benq...
> Following day got a phonecall from Sean, different attitude, somewhat crawly. Said they had one ex-model CMV they could give me for a discount. 'I'll take it' I said. And I did...
> what arrived was an 'Element 15 TFT', scratched case, dead pixels ahoy. Never heard of the brand, and I didn't want the panel that was sitting on my lap. Rang them and they were very apprehensive to take it back, claiming it was 'just as good as a cmv'. Element 15 TFT: 300:1 CR, 30 ms, say no more. When I had finally made Sean bend over backwards so far he could almost see his own breakfast, he gave in. I sent the monitor back at a cost of £20. This was after discovering they had only reimbursed me a measly tenner for the panel being used! I was paying £240 for a £90- panel..
> Recieved a call from the lovely Sean again, to tell me panel had arrived safe and well, and...would I like to be sent a new CMV 15 they had just found in the stock room, or would I rather have a refund?!?! True story. Avoid like the plague. I didn't, and I have the boils to prove it... ph34r.gif

Man what a story.
Eyebath
I know, and sadly it's all true. Maybe it would be a good idea to remove the original link from the UK thread, I'll suggest it to pez, he could just edit it out of his post just in case anyone else orders without finding my posts about them. Hopefully f2hunter will get that last CMV though.

I could have flipped, I had just ordered the benq when that CMV came in...

Product: K-World TV Box

Site: www.tigerdirect.com

Price: $88.99 + $12 for UPS Ground?!

Story:

I was looking for a cheap alternative to the N6 and found the K-World 1531. I placed an order on their site and went about my business... After 10, count em, 10 days, the UPS tracking site finally says "Billing Information Recieved." Another 6 days pass, still "Billing Information Recieved."

I make call #1 to TigerDirect, and get to talk to a rather snooty fellow who sighs when I ask for the status of my order. He places me on hold for like 15 minutes. Comes back and tells me UPS never recieved the item, and that he's sending a new one immediately. Another week or so passes...

I make call #2 to TigerDirect to check status, and get to talk to yet another rather snooty chick who acts as though helping me is like trying to drive a toaster through a carwash. After a few minutes on hold, she comes back and tells me they have been out of stock for months, and that they aren't getting a new shipment in. I cancel the order. Another 2 weeks go by....

I still haven't had the money refunded to my credit card. The site still says it's In-Stock.

::Edit::
I've done some research and found out the quality of these things aren't that great anyway.. Hello, N6!

Wow, thats a shame about tigerdirect, i have always had good luck with them. Of course ive never talked to a human there. They do usually stick you pretty good on shipping. Those credit card transactions can take forever though especially when they put money back on your card.
ad1el2or
hmm. i purchased every piece to my homebuilt computer from tigerdirect, and hadn't had a problem...sorry bout your luck, they really are a good company.

FYI,

For those that are new online ordering for computer parts (mainly usa)...

Resellerratings.com has been a god send for many who would like to order things from the cheapest place. You can get personal experiences (comments) from the customers about the online store and you can get a good (or bad) impression about them. So far, most of the comments seem genuine.

Before you want to buy, check them out here.

Well folks, three weeks ago I noticed a magnetic ballast up for sale on eBay. I was unable to place a bid on it before it ended. However, I contacted the seller on my own, and we made the sale that way. It was $53 total with s/h. Well, three weeks later I got a terrible packed box (he lined a used cardboard box with two pieces of newspaper and 30 packing peanuts!!!), with a product that was not new as advertised and broken, and I am now in the middle of a damage claim through the post office. It comes to this... Do Not Buy!!! from www.shroomsnherbs.com or from eBay e-mail Jack@shroomsnherbs.com. He sells used equipment, blaims the post office if it looks used or broken, and does not offer refunds. It was insured so I should get back what I paid for it, but I am still out $20 from s/h because the thing weighed about 20 pounds. So, in honor of all the help you folks have given me and the kindness you have shown, I offer this warning. Do not do business with this man. That's all this angry man has to say for now.

P.S. (I'm going for the electronic ballast from the Lumenlab Store... it's what I should have done all along...)

Your auction cleary had the charger and batteries in the auction that is the only reason I bid on your item. If I would of know you would not send me the complete items I would have bid on a different auction.

Frosty if your still around I just wanted to comment on your tigerdirect purchase. I live about 30min from tigerdirect (aka computer discount outlet) I went there one day cause they were having a killer deal on a PC. Well I called tigerdirect and they said they have 5 in stock in the warehouse so I went there when I got there they said oh thats an online deal they cant offer in person but if I order over the phone they will allow pickup. Fair enough I called on my cellphone while in the store. They said they have 5 in stock in the warehouse where I was standing I told them well thats fine I will pick it up they said that I cant. I complained a bit till they put the supervisor on they said well they will allow me to pick it up I said great I am in the store I will be at the counter in a few min. Then they said they didnt have it in stock they just sold the last 5 in a mater of a min or two. So I asked when will they be in stock they said a week or 2 and will call me when they come in stock. That was 3 years and 2 PCs ago and I am still waiting for that call.

Hello Just wanted to let everyone know my experince with diyprojectorcompany.com. I maid a purchase from them on December 17 for 2 frensel lenses and a triplet. He promtly emaild me and said that he wouldnt be able to get the lenses out untill after Christmas and asked me if that was ok. I replied that it wasnt and asked for a reufnd. he email me back and said that he infact would be able to get them out right away. One week later I was glad to see the box at my door step. I opend it up to find no triplet lense. I emailed him promtly and he said that he was sure he sent it and to check the Bubble wrap. I email him back and told him that I was sure it wasnt taped in the box. So here it is a month later and no triplet lense and they wont even return my emails I would totaly avoid this company they are dishonest and pathetic. I tried to get my money back from Paypal but they said they caint help how nice of them. I have also filled out a fraud form at the USPS but they say they caint really do anything either.

Would Just like to add a little more about this it seems Alan was gone for week and thats why he didnt reply. It was posted on his websight and on the store.
All in all he did the right thing and got me what I ordered and was very pleasant to do business with but it did take a long time.

I just received my eye bulb and ballast from them in Great condition. You are right about the shipping it is a bit pricey and it takes a good week for delivery.

Note: 1000bulbs.com doesn't show you the shipping charge until you have already purchased the item. Thats just plain old shady!

I too had a bad experience with 1000bulbs.com. They charged me $20 in shipping for a ballast and mogul UPS GROUND! Worst part is they never let me know the full charge until I got the invoice with my packages. Stay away from this company.

Oh and let's not forget the $10 MIN shipping. So if you just bought a single mogul it will still cost you at LEAST $10 to ship it.

I ordered a bulb and ballast from HID Direct on 8/19. I called today to find out why I haven't received it yet (website says next day shipping and 3 days for delivery ) and it turns out the ballast I ordered was not in stock, but they didn't bother to notify me of it. I had the choice of waiting until they got more on 9/9 or substituting another ballast that is not prewired and should have that here Wednesday, or I can pay an extra 47.50 and get it Tuesday. No discount for substituting one thats not prewired, no free priority shipping, didn't seem to care much. My first and only order from these people; they couldn't even do me the courtesy of e-mailing me that it was backordered.

well, I also discovered that probably you don't want to use their web site to order(HIDIRECT.COM) ..... call in your order instead, they were extremely helpful and even called to let me know they were able to add a mogul socket to the order after I placxed the web order the first time)(not listed on site but 4.50 extra) and considering free shipping on ballasts, have to say I will order fomr them when I go to 400 watts.... maybe you just hit a bad salesman....(greg was my guys name) ... like many places, their web order system sucks....

Not sure if this should go here:

CMV 520D LCD:

Got this LCD with its really good specs. The one currently in question is the 500:1 contrast ratio. I am not sure how the company measured it but this is definitely not a 500:1 panel. Maybe it is 500:1 with all the settings maxed out using some sketchy test method. I have a 430:1 acer and the quality on the acer blows this CMV away. I would just like to warn everyone to not buy a LCD if you haven;t seen it. Specs are totatly useless as they normally do not reflect real world use. I knew this beforehand but took a gamble and got the CMV. I would say pick up a Samsung over CMV. I would return it but it is too late. I am considering selling it on eBAY.

~colin

EDIT: I should probably add that I spent 170USD plus around a total of 40USD for shipping to get this LCD. I could have gotten a Samsung for 120USD from eBAY and have had >= quality. I really wanted this LCD because of the DVI. My video card has dual DVI so I wanted to take advantage of it. It appears the the quality of the DSUB input is higher than the DVI (a little strange). I would say do not get this monitor for the DVI, it performs better with analog.

I have mixed reviews for Dealtree Inc (ebay: 2ndturn). The first time that I ordered from them, UPS lost my shipment (not Dealtree's fault, I know). The shipment was insured, so, naturally, I tried to collect the insurance. This is when UPS tells me that they have already given the insurance money to Dealtree. This is also when I started getting a little POed. I had to hound Dealtree quite badly for my money.
A few weeks later, I was ebaying again and found a decent looking Samsung Syncmaster 150MP for a low price, being sold by Dealtree. I was a bit leery about ordering from them after my last experience, but the price was one I could not let get away. This time everything went through without a hitch, and I now have a very nice, fairly inexpensive (well under $100), working LCD TV/computer monitor sitting on my desk waiting to be ripped apart for my projector.
Basically what I'm saying is this: If you order from Dealtree, and UPS loses your shipment, make sure you collect the insurance, otherwise you will have to do a lot of work to get your money.

Im gonna break the chain here a lil and take the oppertunity to post a GOOD review for Europeian guys out here! (sorry, i know this thread is meant for nightmarestories but oh well.. put me behind bars..)

I ordered the Prolens kit and a bulb with sockets from www.DIY-Beamer.com and i added a comment in the order saying "where can i find a ballast for this?" well at that point i had allready made the order and was about to pay and it didnt take me more than 5 mins before i got an email (mind you this was like 4 am for us) Quoting

"Hey jonas!! Great seeing another kid who's creativity is let out on some usefull stuff instead of drugs and that kinda shit..
I have a magnetic ballast here, brand new and will work great for your setup, i normaly don't keep these in stock wich is why it's not on the site, but it's yours for 40Euro (51.5usd) and never mind the extra shipping cost, it's on me - u interested? Let me know and Good luch with the project and Congrats on you're newborn baby =) I take it you are the Ronin at LL-forums?"

So obviously he's keeping track of what's going on and he has been very friendly, im not quite sure who he is on the forum tho lol ! Mind stepping forward dear mystory friend? lol
