Hello everyone,
Im building a projector and im using the USHIO UHI-S400DD bulb and the E39 mogul socket.

My question is once i buy the bulb and the socket is there something else i need to buy to power the socket?
Something that can be plugged into a wall plug?

Please respond!
Thanks!

p.s. If you know of a store where i can buy these items relatively cheap let me know!

You need a ballast.

This can be an ANSI code S51 magnetic ballast, or a 400W electronic ballast. This lamp will not work on straight household power.

If I could ask though, where did you find the S400DD lamp?

If you have 277VAC in your house, then you can, otherwise, I'd look for ones that are more appropriate to your household voltage.

(I'm assuming that you DON'T have 277VAC in your house -- most people don't.)

Dang! Yea my house is 110.
Is there something cheap out there that could amp up my 110 to 277?

You can find a 400W magnetic ballast with a 110V tap on them. If you live in or near a major city, most electrical supply houses have them. They're so heavy, the cost a lot to ship so its better to buy the locally.

Where I live, they're about $45. Estimate $10-15 to ship in the continental US. Here's a link. http://www.1000bulbs.com/400-Watt-Metal-Halide-Ballast/

Hey i'm thinking about buying this bulb its extremely cheap!
Its only 4200K in color temp. but i figure it should at least be a good starter bulb.

The desc says there's a 120V tap which is the equivalent to your 110V. Ignore the other taps. The bulb you mentioned in your subsequent post has a relatively low CRI. Closer to 95 the better.

Oh ok thanks man
You wouldn't happen to have a website you recommend for buying a bulb would you?
