Have anyone try or thinking to try this for light source + diffuser + (some) Lens

http://tesladownunder.com/LEDs.htm#100%20W%20LED

Apparently, they are selling these at around $100 on ebay

What is your opinion on this?

BTW, what PSU and lens you could suggest with this?

Following is the spec
  • Lens Color: Water Clear
  • Emitted Color : White
  • DC Forward Voltage (VF): 30~35 Vdc
  • DC Forward Current (IF): 3800mA
  • Viewing Angle: 140 Degree

How large is the LED array? If it is under about an inch it looks like it just may work.

You will want yo use an condenser lens but it will match your LCD size too.

According to the test site, it is around 4cm square (1.5 inch) Array only with extra 1cm border around (including terminal)... to a total around (2inch square). It have 10x10 LED..

The only concerning things to me is in the test it could burn stuff.. so thinking of LCD heat damage...??

The heat will not be a problem. My unit uses 1200 watts and I found a way to keep it cool.

I would think it would work fine. You might even be able to use a plastic condenser lens. The old rear PJ and some front pj used them. I have one around somewhere.

You do have a lot of single light sources so the light padern may have a bunch of small hot spots. One way to get rid of them would be to add a small amount of diffusion to even out the light between the lamp and condenser lens. I would add a piece of plastic that was sanded lightly to blur the light source.

How large of an LCD to you plan on using?

I have not taken apart the prjector yet.. but looks like it is very small, here is a picture of the original opening for the lamp (just about the same size as a penny). right inside th opening, there is a square item... I assume that is the LCD as it is right after the wheeldisc. If that is correct, it is a 1/4 of the size of the opening which is very small.

BTW, how you manage to cool it off?

So you want to replace the lamp in a LCD PJ?

What kind of PJ is that?

Replacing a PJ lamp with a LED has a whole bunch of different problems beside heat. The main thing is the size of the light source. It is hard to get good focus and brightness when the lamp is about the same size as the LCD.

This is a viewsonic PJ556D. If that square parts I am pointint to is really the LCD, then the LED is still 1/8 of the size...

I am thinking since the LED itself is around 2 square inches.. which is bigger than the opening.. .. will there really be major issue with focusing? Also the LED produce 3x the light as the unit can so could we lose that much light, if so would a reflector of some sort could help??

What if I drill out the current bulb and place this along with a difusser in?

I Just finished modifying my projector for this. It works just fine. Only one problem. Focusing the light.

Here is the link> XR-10X 100W LED MOD

Some optics research is definitely neccesary to complete a project like this. I've gone through three different lenses with no luck.

Hope this helps.
