Hi all, my first post here from rainy ole england

I have an NEC VT440 commercial projector, i have vertical lines approx 2 pixels wide running through the image at approx every other 10 to 15 pixel intervals, im guessing its shot, so as Baldrick would say, " i have a cunning plan"

Apart from the annoying lines which have rendered the PJ useless to watch, would i be able to salvage any parts from it ie, bulb lens to use in a diy project, below are some admitedly vague specs lifted from the NEC website.

I was thinking at the very least of building a small enclosure using the bulb, ballast from the NEC, and hopefully salvaging the optics to possibly use with a small screen, maybe from a psp??? at this stage im in the dreaming stage lol, but am currently trying to decide on the best project to undertake.

Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated, i would mainly use it for movies with a bit of gaming, and due to size of room, would be looking at approx 60 inch ish image size maybe a bit more.

here are the specs for the optics/bulb

Optical
LCD Panel 0.9” p-Si TFT active-matrix, 8002600 dots (VT440) / 10242768 dots (VT540)
Lens Manual zoom, manual focus
F2.0 – 2.3 f=35.8 – 43.0 mm
Lamp 160W NSH lamp (130W in Eco mode)
Image Size 25 – 300 inches (0.64 – 7.62 m) diagonal
Projection Distance 3.94 – 39.04 ft (1.2 - 12.0 m)

I'm sure that the answer to this is in the FAQ.

What the heck...

You ought to be able to use the lamp, but it probably won't be as bright.

Using hte optics with a PSP screen is going to give you a very short thow, if it works at all. The 0.9" panel is signifigantly smaller than the PSP screen, so the resulting projection will be commesurately larger -- if it works at all. There's no guarantee that the objective lens has a FOV nearly large enough for this.

So about the only re-useable thing there is the lamp... And the life/replacement cost of the lamps is one of the key benefits of a DIY projector.

Also you can not use the Psp screen. It does not have a composite input, so no way to get a signal into it.
