You're looking for Powerstrip.

Note that this will work for the PC desktop, and for most video players, but it will NOT work with DirectX Games.

I had to resize a 17" LCD down at one point. I was thinking that the conversion would be complicated, so I started this topic for the conversion. Part of that was me figuring out how to use PowerStrip.

Maybe that will help you out?

I hope this will answer your question. It took me a while to figure this out too.

It will likely take some playing with to make it work right. I was able to reduce my 15" screen down to a 11" screen but it did take some playing around.

If I adjusted the width too much without adjusting the height my monitor would give a "no signal" error. You will find the scan rate and the refresh rate change as you change the size, I had to keep changing them back or it would give a "no signal" error. I can't remember if the Pixel Clock (top left) number changes too, but if it does I also had to keep that about the same. And no, I do not know what any of these numbers mean, or what they do. I just know that this worked for me.

Good luck!

As I recall, the "lock" on the settings makes it so that the monitor keeps receivng a native resolution signal -- 1280X1024 or 1024X768 -- but that Windows only sees a portion of that, which is controlled by PowerStrip.
