So pursuing around my local craigslist and I found this gem.

The electronics are basically all shot, and it's missing a few pieces here and there but the bulk if it is there. Needs new driver, servos, and get all the buttons to doing things. I can't wait, already ordered my first batch of parts.

It's was made by Machineworks Inc circa 1990s. The design is amazingly simply and uses a Sherline Lathe, with servos and drivers mounted. Apparently it was amazingly proprietary when they were sold and sold with a custom PC to use it. Since all the electronics (other than power supply and motor) are fried I'm going to be swapping it over to all new components anyway.

All devices should have a giant red button labeled panic.

I was taking a closer look at that button last night. It is a really nice piece.

So on the backside is a kill switch with 3 sets of in/out leads. But the nice thing is you press it to cut the power. However, to reset the switch you turn it about 1/2 inch and it resets. It is a really nice button.

You said it had servos a few times are your sure? It should have had steppers.

I would think most of the parts could be re used.

Do the motors have an encoder on them? If not and if the lead screw does not have an encoder then you have a stepper system. New smaller steppers may go a little faster but you may be able to reuse the steppers, power supply, lead screws and all the buttons.

Have you looked at control software?
