Hi, I've got a Dell 15" LCD all stripped and works fine. Wacked it on OHP...super duper (may remove anti glare at some point). Now, I want to actually house it in a case and stuffs

SO

Ill probably make a box out of wood. I can jigsaw some holes in the wood and wack the control board connectors (VGA + power) through (loads hot glue gun with glue magazine), plus I may mount the monitor button panel on it, but it's more the internals that I have concern about.

I need some stupid Fresnel lenses right? One either side of the panel, plus then I need a convex lenses to focus the light at the front. I need a stupid halogen build with some stupid reflector as well. Then I have to wack in a couple of stupid fans (ill probably get some nice quiet ones). Then there is the stupid power the light (take a parallel connection from the monitor kettle lead?). Then I'm sorted? Maybe a circuit breaker.

So:

  • Fresnel lenses, where? ... best be cheap. Old OHPS perhaps but I don't have any spare sad.gif (310mm x 240mm will do)
  • Stupid focusing lenses, how much? Probably want a nice stupid round package one I can turn for focusing at different distances.
  • Halogen build, will focus diy sell it? What wattage? Want a stupid pro reflector, should I go metal halide. Needs to be cheap!
  • Ill get some MDF and put some aluminium foil inside it for my box?
    "Good idea Tom!"
    Why Thanks

Also that homemade software by lumelab gives me a stupid
The stupid lumelab application has failed to start because msvbvm50.dll was not found, despite having Visual Studio 2008 and Vista SP2.

Thanks
Thomas

P.S: Im from the UK, so no don't want to ship any stupid parts from america tongue.gif

If you already have an OHP< then you have all of the optics that you need.

The fresnel lenses are in the bed of the OHP already. It might be nice to be able to have a split lens design, but it's not needed.

Basically you more or less build a box to hold the parts that you are using the OHP with. You might remove the mirror, and make it a straight shooter projector, or maybe not -- that's up to you.

Ahh don't really want to bash up a working OHP... and it's got a heavy duty metal chassis, which I don't want to start touching (not to mention the electrical boxes and wiring)... it's a nice old one as well from the 70s (i think).

I have ~ 310mm by 230mm LCD, will using 2 of these inexpensive Fresnel suffice
http://www.3dlens.com/shop/full-page-magnifying-sheet.php

I don't need the fresnel covering the whole screen...right? It's a circle beside anyway and I have a rectangle

Also metal halide bulbs are expensive? What wattage should I get and what price

and finally the main lenses. is it just a convex lense? Where abouts can I get it from... it has to b aligned with the center of the Fresnel, right?

Ill buy some wood and alumium angle from focus in the next couple of days

Is the unit assembled like:

Light Source-> Fresnel ->Fresnel (again) -> LCD -> Lense

Thanks
Tom

no, those fresnels are not appropriate.

You want the ones under "Large fresnel lens" 395a and 395b for two with a 220mm and 330mm fl.

For a "main lens" yes, a single convex lens with a FL of about 320mm would be appropriate, however, a triplet lens would be a better choice.

Surplusshed has some that will work, http://www.surplusshed.com/pages/item/l1136.html should work. A doublet isn't ideal, but that's the quickest that I could find.

For the fresnel lenses, their job is to bring light to the objective lens. Any area of the LCD that these do not cover will not be projected.

Trust me on this and save yourself loads of time.

Buy regular parts. The stupid ones just have way too many problems with them. I dont know how many stupid fresnals wouldnt focus.
