Full Version: Shambler's OZ 15.4" WUXGA Straight through

Shambler
Hey there!
After a long 9 months, I’ve finally managed to source all/most of the parts for my projector! Certainly an effort as I’m in Australia, most parts had to be traded or bought online. The plan is to build a straight through box, with a 15.4inch WUXGA display in it.

Parts so far:
15.4 inch Samsung LCD – Model No. LTN154U2-L04
MST6U89-7in1 Controller
500mm Pro Triplet
Unknown Fresnel lenses

Parts to come:
Enclosure
Fans
Ballast and lamp

This plog should hopefully chronicle the build process (woo pictures!) and serve as a single place for me to keep up with my own progress.
I'm going to hopefully have a few posts at the top of the plog reserved for updates, in seperate sections (optics, lighting, LCD)

I’ll be coming to the rest later on, should be interesting to see how it progresses! I will hopefully be getting some help with the Enclosure (my woodworking skills aren’t the best!)
If anything leaps out at you as something I’m doing horribly wrong (probably!) tongue.gif I’d appreciate any feedback! smile.gif

Thanks,
Sam

Lens’!
I have no idea what my fresnels are unfortunately, the person I got them from threw them in with some other parts (many of which never showed up) and never told me the FL. I’ve been reading around today and will attempt to measure these tonight, hopefully they’re close enough to a standard size and I won’t have to buy new ones. They are a little warped however, is this going to be a big problem in my build? The triplet I’m assuming is a 500mm (I was told it was a Pro Triplet) however I’m not so sure. Is the method for measuring this the same as the fresnels?

Pictures to come smile.gif

Enclosure
The box is likely to be built of Plywood, from what I’ve read(remembered) it should be suitable at least for the first build. Length potentially could be an issue, but in my current apartment I can rest the projector on a table, so it may not be so much of an issue. I was thinking of routing the plugs from my MST controller to the back panel if I get time, however I don’t have a lot of that at the moment, so that might come later tongue.gif
One thing I haven’t been able to work out for myself is how to build each of the lenses adjustable. The triplet doesn’t seem too hard, however the fresnels and the LCD I’m having trouble visualising. My current idea is to mount each in a separate wooden frame, and have each frame run on a single track, with something to clamp them in place. Does anyone have some relatively simple suggestions that I could pull off on my first build?

Lighting
I currently have a Dukane OHP at home (which I picked up off the side of the road funnily enough, along with an Infocus Projection panel!). I was thinking I could use the lighting gear from this (seems to be a 575 Metal-Hallide) and pretty much throw it in my projector. I have a feeling that this OHP has been modded to improve the performance of the Projection panel. When I sort out what model it is I’ll update this as well.
