I am currently planning on making my second projector using an 8" portable DVD player that I have. I am using it because about 30seconds into a film, the laser will jump to one end of the rails and the motor will keep on going making a loud grinding noise until I have to unplug it. I am trying to find out the cause of the problem.

However if i do not, I will need something else to provide the signal to the LCD. Does anyone know if you can get controllers for portable DVD player LCDs?

It is a Matsui DVD player and the pictures of the player, screen and connectors are on the PLOG HERE (click here).

Most of these will also accept an external composite video source, in which case the on-board controller will be fine. If it does not, it would likely cost less to buy another 8" 480X234 res screen than to buy a controller for that one.

Unfortunately the DVD player only has outputs not inputs sad.gif

Been trying to find out the pins of the connector going from the DVD player to the LCD screen controller incase they use a protocol that just needs a connector soldered on (wishful thinking).

UPDATE:
Grrrr!!! This is so frustrating searching for info on the DVD player circuit, controller or connectors (didnt find anything useful on anything!)

Perhaps more people might be abel to help if you wre to post the make/model of the DVD player? As I said, MOST of these will also take inputs, though it is true that not all will.

The DVD player is a Matsui PL 618

The controller board has the marking: 8" PL608A

Annoyingly it seems to have headphones out, line out, composite out, S-video out and one labeled Coaxial which I believe is also an output sad.gif
All of these are via 3.5mm jack sockets.

YAY!!! biggrin.gif *does a little dance*

Had nearly given up and then I googled the chip on the controller board and apparently it is the same type that is used on lots of screens. Anyway, some guy has been modding these controllers because they have pins that allow for Composite or RGB inputs. All i need to do now is trace the pins back to the connector going to the DVD player and add my own sockets on. (well thats the plan tongue.gif)

The website is here: http://www.freewebs.com/vgmods/playstationmodifications.htm
Bit more info here too: http://hak5.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=9104
Pinout diagram here: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/attachment...lcd-ir3y29b.jpg

It might be of interest to anyone else making a PJ with a small LCD because I think the chip is used in quite a few portable DVD players.

Will update with results after some experimenting.
