I have the SharXS HTI 1500w/D7/60 metal halide light bulb from stagelightingusa... heres the link

http://www.stagelightingusa.com/OSRAM-SYLV...ategory_id=1299

I hooked it up to my 1500 watt ballast from 1000bulbs.com that i used to run my giant sized 1500 watt bulb.... and no magic happened!

I have a sneaky suspicion that I need an ignitor for the light to strike, but I figured "you won't know til' you ask" type deal. lol
Do i need an entire new setup? What do I need to add? Thanks!

I've attached a pic of what the bulb looks like as well

The lamp's average life runs at 750 hours when operated between 1200W and 1500W.

That kinda sucks.

The SharXS HT 1500W/D7/60 is designed for operation on electronic ballasts (ECG) only. Operation on magnetic ballast will result in lower performance, accelerated ageing and poorer maintenance.

You might want to contact the ballast vendor directly and see what they recommend.

As the old saying goes, "If you have to ask, it's too much". I contacted the manufacturer of the recommended ballast in Germany for a suitable ballast. They contacted me back with a forwarding email to a US rep. Long and the short of it, a 1500 watt electronic ballast goes for roughly $2100 US. Not including the igniter. ohnoes.gif There's a separate route to go in the way of the e-ballast, being that I purchase an OEM ballast and build onto it as I needed (its a circuit board only, without heatsinks, wires, etc.) for around $1100 US. This didn't turn my crank much, so i'm in pursuit of other electronic ballast manufacturers and waiting to hear back from them.

Also, I've noticed that I have a magnetic ballast, and after some reading I need a pulse start ballast to run this lamp at minimum. There are always drawbacks to the 30lbs. of transformer (low lumen maintenance, no power factor correction, etc. etc.) but I think ultimately that is the route to keep from going bankrupt to light a light. wink.gif
