Lets face it, the remotes SUCK, the buttons wear out really fast, i have only been using mine for 3 weeks or so and the power button already does not work. You have to press the other buttons repeatedly for them to work, it is becoming a big pain in the ass.

I need to know if someone has found a universal remote that works on these things. Or we need to see if you can find specs on a universal remote that has compatibility with a viewsonic.

Has anyone else had issues with the remote? Maybe my battery just is dead, it is a rather small battery, esp when compared to the 4 aa most remotes take.

Hi Foamcows .... there were several discussions on this earlier... you should do a search... I remember several members mentioned a trainable remote... ohmy.gif

here is a link.... go about 10 posts down and you should see a lengthy discussion on the N6 Remote... including some getting Viewsonic to send out a replacement...

emailed viewsonic, they told me to call the parts department, it sounds like they want to charge me for this. I have only used the thing for less than a month.

They won't charge you. I had mine replaced for free. They know the remotes stink.

Remotes suck.... check out: http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=272

I bought a 15-2116 from Radio Shack for $30 you can reprogram it to do macros, long key presses, short key presses, etc

I have it configured so when I press and hold down one of the component keys (like AUX used for my Mythtv box) it will turn on the tv (if it isn't already on you can you discrete on/off to track the power state of any component) turns the tv to input1, turns the audio receiver to TV mode then switches to the buttons for the Hauppage PVR 250 card that I use in my Mythtv box (also you can reprogram the LCD display to show MYTHTV or a device name)

I just built an interface cable out of an old serial cable and part of an IDE cable (used for the header)

Also you can setup a long keypress on the power button to power everything OFF so when you are ready to leave or go to sleep just press it and everything shuts down.

Cleared up 7 remotes (vcr, satellite, tv, mythtv, cd, receiver, dvd) down to 1 remote with buttons that lightup making it easy to work in the dark until you memorize them!

Great for the WAF or mother in-law (had to have the kids show her how to change to dvd, tv, etc) how it is just point and click let the remote do all the work
