I've been looking at using servo motors for my CNC drive motors. I like them b/c of their torque, and top RPM (over using steppers), but for the life of me I cant find a cost effective controller for them! I mostly see industrial controllers costing upward to $3000....each! The cheapest one I've seen is for a specific motor, and was running about $600 per channel.

Anyone know of a good place to find these motors and a good controller? I'm aiming for about 100 IPM and plan on using a 10 TPI acme thread. so a 1000 RPM is going to be needed, with at least 200 pulses per rev (gives me .0005 per pulse)

I found ways to over run your steppers to get a little more speed out of them, but I can see a large stepper running at 1000 RPM. Maybe 200 RPM tops.

Or is anyone knows of a high speed stepper alternative, that might be better!
