ohnoes.gif I have been looking to build a projector for nigh onto 3 years now and am about to embark upon the journey.

It seems waiting to build until now (Summer '09) is a good thing. There are a lot of HD flat panel TV's out there now, some even have built in DVD players.
The Hannspree 9.6" build elsewhere on this site looks pretty interesting, but I was hoping that in the time since his build a higher resolution screen is out there somewhere.

The small flat panel HDTV or a portable DVD player seems to me to be the way to go.

Pros:
1. It is a flat panel.
2. Already has the tuner built into it!!! Saving major expense not having to purchase a board, controller, etc.
3. Smaller projector box.

Cons:
1. The resolution of a 10" is not as high as a 15".

Possible candidates for usage in my project so far.
1. Audiovox DT102A
2. Hannspree 9.6"
3. Axion 7" Widescreen Portable LCD TV - Black ( AXN-8701 )(currently at Target)
4. Just looked at Target and Best Buy TV's and portable DVD players section, there is a unbelievable wide assortment available. One of these machines must fit the bill.

Ultimately what I am looking for is 10" or smaller screen HDTV with decent resolution, and (if possible) minimal stripping of the LCD.

Any help the from the throngs of people who come to this site would be appreciated.

Digitally yours,

If your definition of HD is 1080p, then 10" LCDs are pretty much out of the DIY price range.
You can still probably find 10.6", 10.9" or 12.1" LCD/Controller kits that will give you at least 720p.

If you're wanting full 1080p, then your best bet is probably to purchase a 15.4 Pixelworks controller and pair it with a 15.4 WUXGA LCD.
