Full Version: Another DIY electric build...

I was just gonna do this in my PLOG, but then I figured that it might be able to help more people if I started a new topic over here for it.

I am building an electric screen. It will be a painted fabric screen, conduit to hold it and roll it up. And a small electric screw driver to do the rolling.

So here is the screwdriver all cut up. Poor thing was bought and cut in half with in an hour. Never had a chance. ROFL

I then put the batteries, trigger and charger back in the handle. Glued it all up with hot glue and it works a treat.

By the way... here is the model of the mounts:

Cool motor mod!

What did you pay for the cordless screwdriver?
Windcalmer
$7 brand new. It was a cheap-o-tool kinda brand. There is this store down here called Big Lots. Most of the time I never go there, but when you are looking for stuff to tear apart its great! They buy stuff from stores that might have burned down, or gone out of business for one reason or another. Then they sell it cheap. Usually not top shelf brands, but when your gonna hack it in half within the hour....LMAO!

I have to say, that little motor and gear assembly are strong. Me and my buddy Animal tried to hold on to the bit and get it to stop turning and couldn't. So I think it will have more than enough torque to roll up a light weight screen.

So um....it really was not that big a deal. Got it up and done in about 4 hours, with taking a few breaks to come in and surf the forum. LOL

BTW, I am going to be adding a pole to the bottom of the screen to hold it tight. That should take out any sagging or what have you.

Here are the pics, and the two videos after:

Cut in half and all wired back up.

Here are the bike gears I got from the local shop. They were so great. Just went through all the spare old gears and let me pick out what I needed, even had some chain.

Here it is all put up. I am going to build a surround for it that will cover it all up and make it pretty.

Here are the two videos of it in action:

Nice work. It seems a bit loud, though. Might you be able to quiet it down a little by placing some vibration dampening (rubber or something) between the motor mount and the wood attached to the ceiling?
Windcalmer
Yeah, I am thinking about putting a slab of 1/2" rubber I have between the ceiling and the mounts. The only problem is that the ceiling is VERY thin in that room. The guy that built this house was an idiot. He used a 1/4" sheets of plywood for the ceiling. So I am trying to com up with a plan so that I don't have to sheet rock the whole room and all.

But hey, the screen works, and its really quiet during the movies. ROFL

Thanks Quasi!

Quick question, does the wrinkles of the BOC negatively affect the projected image in anyway?

Cuz I really liike your screen!
