Hey oh,
This is my second projector build and I am trying to do this one right. I'm attempting to stick the 400watt light system in a pc case, with a small lcd (Portable DVD Player) and a 18" beseler. I want this to be a long throw projector as I find short throws get in the way of watching movies and playing games. I will be posting progress continuously, and probably asking lots of questions.

Parts List:

LL Vue 400watt Electronic Ballast

Ushio Lamp

Pc Case

LL Reflector

Various Fans and electrical bits.

To Be Purchased:

Correct Frenel Lenses

18" beseler or Pro Triplet

9"Portable DVD player

Various other bits and bobs

Parts

Start of variable Light box

I still have to finish fabricate the reflector holder, and the outsides of the box which will be made out of sheet metal.

First Question.

What Fresnel lenses would work best for the long throw design? I am thinking maybe a 220mm and a 550mm?

Thanks

That scene from Black Sheep just popped in my head. "Fat guy in a little coat"....LOL VIDEO

I can't wait to see the progress on this one. I have been thinking of almost the same build for a PJ that I can carry in the car and over to my buddies house. GOOD LUCK!!!

Just out of curiosity, have you used the focal calculator to determine what projected size your shooting for based on your throwing distance? Also, what resolution is your 9" lcd/dvd capable of?
Canadianfreerider
These are my focal lengths and throw distances.

I am hoping to find a lcd with 800 by 480 resolution.

Ok, not an expert on this but you may be able to get 480p with 800x480 @ 4:3 ratio, 852x480 for 16:9 is required. There is a point where pixelation (screen door) becomes quite evident when projection becomes larger. My point is that your aware of this. I've built with a dvd portable 7" 480i with a projected size of 70" (guessimate) and the pixels were quite evident viewing at about 8 feet away. Not sure if will be the same with 480p @9". If someone with more experience would like to chime in on this, please do.

Disregard what I said above, I just did some research of my 7" build. The 480i was 480x234 so I think you will do alot better with your 9" at the size your shooting for, IMO.

Progress with the light box. I still need to mount the lexan over the opening, and attach the pro reflector.
