I was talking with a friend the other day and we both mentioned that it seemed like we had less and less time these days. He is strapped to the limit and so am I.
Worse yet, it seems that there is less and less time as I get older. I can remember being young and the days would last forever. Now, I look at the clock and half the day is gone before I even realize it.

Is it extra focus on work?
Is it the kids?
Is it the economy?
Is it dropping everything every five minutes to solve someone elses problem?

Anyone else starting to experience this? Seems like I dont have enough time to do anything these days.

(Hell, Im still sitting on the parts I bought last Christmas for my computer.)

All the above and then some. I don't recall having any of those things to worry about when I was young but now it's all about time management.

Hey D,.....your in my seat!

I SO hear that...

Even Marriage/kids doesn't seem to explain it all. I had that before, and it still seems like there are fewer hours in a day...

I don't know if it's related to age, or if the overall pace of life is just getting out of hand. It seems like there's more and more stuff to get one during hte day, and there's never enough time to get it all done... Or maybe I just spend too much time at work goofing off around here.

I also have a sort of theory... When you're 10 years old, a year seems like FOREVER. Well, of course it is. It's 10% of your total life experience so far. When you're 40, well, that's 2.5% and not as big a deal... Of course by that line of thought the rate of accelleration should be decreasing as you get older... I don't know about you guys, but it seems to be the other way 'round.

So that leaves things in the overall pace of life. I used to have a lot more time for reading, playing sports, even watching TV (Which I hardly ever do anymore.) Even playing video games on the computer, I used to do more of.... So what am I spending more time on now?

Thats crazy. I was just talking about exactly this. but its not just you. I rember when i was little and my parents would throw new years parties. Us kids would play out in the pasture and the barn, get it a couple games of freeze tag, play roller hockey, poke at a bees nest, assemble a light brite pattern. meet other parents, and also play nintendo for a long time, and the i remember having to fight to stay awake to make it to midnight. these days im lucking if i can chug a few beers and light the barbeque before my friends take off @ 3 in the morning. Its sad, and that being said i hate thinking about stuff like this bcause we all think were specail and have a place in this world, but when you actually look at how much of your life went by so far. it doesnt feel right.

Im beginning to think that maybe time really does fly when you are having fun. I set out to have fun in this life and I think I have done a good job. But I dissagree with looking at how much of your life went by and feeling bad. It will go by you if you are sleeping or if you are battling dragons. Maybe it seemed longer because it was less complicated when we were young. Maybe we could process and store so much more information that it seemed longer because there was more content to review.
Not really sure.

What I do know is that time seems to be much faster as I get older...and Im starting to understand the lure of immortality.

I would also like to remember what it was like to be bored.

I missed the boat.

where did the time go?

It's like I get home from work & before I know it, it's 10 at night.

Here/s a wild theory:

I have been in a few life and death situations over the years and something unusual happens. Time seems to slow down, colours get brighter and my mind becomes very clear. Doctors have speculated that we view the world at a kind of frames per second and during times of stress this frame rate increases giving us time to react, and creating the illusion of time slowing down. As children perhaps we are experiencing the world at a higher frame rate and as we age it slows down. Heck, at my age every thing else seems to be have slowed down also.

Just a wild theory.

So you're saying that as children, we're more stressed? smile.gif

Actually, it's an interesting theory.

This weekend I got a chance to dance with my Godchild. She is bright and sunny and any boy in his right mind would fall instantly in love with her.
I held her when she was all of 10 hours old.

Now she is nearly a full grown woman.

I swear I have seen Chia Pets grow slower than this child. wink.gif

I think when you're young, you don't really understand time very well, the fact that it is a definate that you will grow old and the fact of death, You feel that you are invincible. It is only when you think of ageing and the forthcoming death which is inevitable, you start counting. It is the counting, the understanding over numbers is when you understand time. Time goes on only forward, doesn't slow rather seems to go faster as understanding of time increase. Try not to think about it too much as it may take over your life!

Not sure if I would use the term "understanding". Perhaps I would use the term "perceiving time".

Time is an illusion. There is only the now. Children live in the now, they don't spend their days worrying about the future or rehashing the past. We as adults (demonstrated by this blog) spent far to much time thinking about the past and the future, and perhaps not enough time living the present.
