No, I never did a PLOG since I didn't take any pictures of the building process. I do have several pictures of the design of the inside and I was thinking of putting those up as a PLOG. Those would at lease show the inside and how I built it.

Good to see someone else using that lense one of my co-workers gave me his a while back but it never worked with my 330fresnel I was waiting until the summer to pic up the 550 since I'm projecting from 10 feet away it makes it hard to build a proper screen.
Click to view attachment looks like we have the same baby and based on your results I'll definately use it maybe even with a 12 inch panel biggrin.gif and yes 16:9 is the only way to go I set my screen to compres it to that size as well.
Great work man.

Whenever you find time, you may please see our projector with a long throw lens placed on an almirah at a distance of 22 feet from the opposite wall used as screen. The image is 120" wide. The details as well as screen shots are given in my web page http://www.drtsolutions.com/Projector.htm

Here are my boards. The power board has the identical connectors, I bet that it is just a newer version. The controller might work but may not. It has the same connections but maybee the controller chip is different. I'll take the chance.

I'm currently getting parts for my next projector a 17". I just needed a replacement power board and it will soon be on it's way thanks to jmrguy.

My new adition to my home theartre is a Philips FTR9955 Ebox that I purchased refurbished from Philips certified auctions on ebay for $55.00 to my door. All manuals, cables and the remote are included with a 1 year warranty! This box is MUCH better than the N6 or the like. I learned about this unit from RaginRudolph's thread (see here). Here is also a link to a very informative discussion on avsforum (click here).

Here are some pictures taken tonite using the Ebox.

This is using the PS2.

Very nice results wink.gif

Im just curious as to why everybody uses MDF i know it is cheap but it will make the finished PJ really heavy ohmy.gif

Since i dont have much room in my bedroom mine will need to be ceiling mounted and i want somethin light to make the box out of and i was thinking somerthing like 1/4 inche-1/2 inch ply wood do you think it would be good enough unsure.gif

1/4 will be too flimsy. 1/2 should be ok, but personally I am using 3/4" ply so its strong and I know it will remain square. Heavy yes, but strong smile.gif
Dergrin
I used 1/2 and it works just fine.

Thank for the shout out and I'm happy to see that you are getting just as much pleasure from you e-box as I am from mine. I had just posted earlier in my plog that some should check out the FTR9955 because of the price you can get it at although it does not have pixal plus like the FTR9965 it should still have the same inputs and outputs as the FTR9964 and FTR9965 do.
Glappe you said your going to make another PJ using a 17" monitor you might want to try to get a FTR9965, it will have the capability to let you use the 720p the monitor ic capable of by the way great results with those pics I thought all my post about the e-box was going in one ear and out the other in some of these forms but it's good to know someone else thinks just as highly about this piece of equipment as I do.

I am thinking of using the same lense you have
18" EFL lens (457mm focal length)

Is the 550mm fresnel a good idea, or will the 650mm fresnel from LL work better. I know that the lense is 6 inches long which is why it cannot accept a large lcd. If I use a fresnel with a longer focal length, will that aid me in getting better focus and color in the corners, or will it hurt.

I was thinking that the angle of the light path would be narrower as it entered the lens which would help overcome its long length.

For the 18EFL lens I used the 550/220 combination and it works well in my opinion. People say that you’re supposed to have perfect focus when using an 18EFl/15LCD but my corners are blurry on a 4:3 full screen display (desktop). A wide screen movie is perfect. I tried my brother-in-laws Pro 650mm Fresnel with it and I didn't see a difference with my 15" LCD. I haven't tried this but the 650mm Fresnel might be a better match for a 17 LCD with the 18EFL lens but this is only a guess.

Better of going pro if you want to use a 17 and get perfect corner to corner focus. MY 18" was great for my 15" monitor even at 4:3 but with a 17" monitor unless you are in say 16:9 format the blurry or darker corners might be a turnoff. The 220/550 is a good combo with the 18" triplet though.

I have just built my first vertical (folded light path) projector for a friend and I'm very pleased with the results. Here is the projector on its maiden voyage. It uses a 15 LCD, 220mm fresnel, 550mm fresnel, and a 18EFL lens as my straight path.

Thank you sir! Alot of blood and sweat went into this so it's great to hear that. I will be honest and say that ALOT of the sharp picture comes from the Intervideo Windvd 7 Platinum edition. The platinum version has a sharpening option available that rivals (IMHO) ffdshow for sharpness and quality. Just look at my pictures! Win dvd 8 also has this option but they make you buy the Platinum version for it to be availabe.

your vertical is very motivating, looks awsome. what is the overal dimension of the box??!

The owner has it now so let me email him to get the measurements. I will say the I should have made it about 1 1/2 to 2" taller for the mirror to propperly catch and bend all of the image. This is why the top corners are a little darker but the projections look great.

Thanks Litherish! I still have to build my 17" LCD projector since I have all the parts sitting in the closet but that may still be a while yet since my daughter is due to be born in 3 weeks.
My wife and I like the "out of the way" factor of the vertical but we both agree that the straight path is much brighter so I will be building another straight path I believe.

Solarex,

The dimentions are 13" Deep x 17" Wide x 35" HIGH. As I said I think it should be about 1 1/2 to 2" taller since I think some of the light is not being reflected (darker corners at the top).
