Hi Guys,

Just stumbled on your site, amazing work. I work with a friend of mine who does a bunch of hand made metal work. This includes everything from aluminum, mild, and stainless steel in different metal gauges anywhere from 12-16 gauge. I was looking at the micro cnc desktop device already pre-assembled but was wondering if this could be outfitted with a plasma cutter? Is there an option to upgrade to a large cutting surface area? Are there any future plans to offer a pre-assembled version of RoGR? I currently live and work in the southern california area, I noticed that this is mostly a DYI project but do-not have the time to invest as I work full time and my weekends are full with starting another business. Does anyone offer a professional assembly service?

Thank you,
-Adam

I don't really know whether the micRo is suited for plasma work or not, but I would guess it isn't. I'm thinking it is probably too slow for plasma. I'm really just taking a stab in the dark though. tongue.gif

The RoGR on the other hand could be pretty much perfect. It's also huge, so there's much less worry that your raw stock will be too big for the machine or anything like that.

There actually is a pre-made version of the RoGR. It took a little digging... here's the link: RoGR Gantry Robot. I'm pretty sure what they do is completely build the RoGR, test it, then partially disassemble it for shipping. So there would be some assembly required, but it would be more like putting together a bookshelf than building the machine from scratch. I'd speculate that if you wanted to have the whole, assembled machine shipped it could be done, but it would be like shipping a couch or a car - special arrangements would have to be made.

I would suggest contacting brainchild to inquire about lead time, shipping, and what it would take to attach a plasma cutter.

Hi Adam,
The micRo is un-tested with plasma cutting. While in theory the tool-holder can carry anything, I'm a bit apprehensive about the heat and slag a plasma cutter would generate. The RoGR is much better suited for this application. You should send an e-mail to support@lumenlab.com for negotiated sales. Also, while the micRo is probably not suited (in its current incarnation) for plasma cutting, and the RoGR would be fine, it would still be necessary to have a combination of hardware and software that supports the plasma cutter. To provide a better answer, I would need to know what your specific intentions are.. How do you intend to control the cutter? What software will drive the machine? How will your code be generated?

We are coming out with a redesigned RoGR that will be much more modular, extensible and much cheaper. This won't happen until micRo production is stable; but we see the light at the end of that tunnel! The new RoGR (R2?) will be a lot more user friendly!
