Full Version: Scratched LG Flatron W2452T Anti Glare removal?

Hey.
I found the forum whilst looking for a solution to a scratch on my monitor.
Its quite new so I am understandably annoyed.
Anyway after trying some of the methods I read on the internet such as putting Vaseline in the scratch etc I discovered that the anti glare coating may be removable.
All I would like to know is if anyone has managed to remove it from a similar monitor?
If I am sure it is a film and not a coating I would be happy to give removing it a go.

I have read through the thread with all the monitors but could not find an LG Flatron.
If anyone can help I would be very grateful.

Laurie.

Welcome to the forum!

I searched the Lumenlab forum and didn't come across any references to that make and model number. We don't usually deal with monitors or LCD TVs over 19".

Anti glare removal isn't widely recommended, unless as a last resort. The monitor would have to be completely disassembled and the LCD panel assembly would have to be removed. This will void any type of warranty the monitor still retains (if the scratch hasn't already done that). The LCD panel housing would then have to be completely disassembled to get the bare LCD panel out. You would then have to be willing to lay a wet paper towel over the panel and let it sit for several hours. There is a risk that the anti glare won't come off, as well as a very real risk that you might damage the FFCs (flat flexible cables) that attach the LCD panel to the circuit board, which in turn connects to the monitor's controller board. There is also a risk that you'll inadvertently remove the polarizer layer from the front of the LCD, as well as the anti glare. If this is done, there's a chance that you can re-use the polarizer or replace it with another.

If you understand the risks and are willing to proceed, possibly killing your LCD monitor altogether (been there, done that), then I would suggest you read all you can about anti glare removal on the LL forum using this Google search: site:lumenlab.com remove anti glare

You might run across a "quirk" when searching using Google, however. If you notice the thread looking "wonky" like this image, simply go up the the top right corner of the thread and click on Options and then Switch to: Standard. If you encounter a URL that looks like the following (https://secure.lumenlab.com/...), you can simply delete the front (https://secure.) off the URL in the address bar and hit enter.

Once you've done the necessary reading, and you're still willing to proceed, we are here to help. If you have any questions about what to do during the dis-assembly, posting pictures would help us to help you.

Good luck!

Thankyou very much for the reply.
I will be sure to post again if I go for it.
I do feel it may be more of a risk than I would like to take as it is my only monitor.
Thanks again.

Laurie.
