I am a newbie in this forum and i've just bought a 2nd hand a compaq mp3800 dlp projector with this condition :

1. all body is good, no remote control
2. the lamp still on a place but dead, lamp condition is good ( i check with OHM meter)
3. when i push a power button, all control button light in green, but the lamp not turn on. the fan can spinning nornally.
4. there's a three little cable from ballast to svip dc/dc converter (one red and two black). two black cable has been shorted and red cable plug in to the ballast.

The question is :
1. Is the lamp was off cause by two black cable wrong shorted? (I need an explanation about this three little cable)
2. I need step by step guidance to check a condition about this PJ
3. I need a wiring/ schematic diagram about this PJ
4. If the lamp was dead, can i use a Halogen?(original lamp was expensive in my country)
5. What lamp type that suitable with this projector, without change an original ballast or modification anything...

I know a little bit an electronic basic, but please help me everybody....
