im trying to bypass the bulb on a toshiba tlp-410. and im not having much luck
i removed the ballast and there was a 4 wire connector going to it.
i measured the voltage of each wire and it went 5v, 0v, 5v, 0 v.
i tried grounding the 5vs, and i tried matching them up with the 0 v lines.
when i do this the led for lamp comes on but its red. i think that may be some kind of protect or something because the power led turns red as well.
i cant get this thing on a straight green led. so i dont think im bypassing!

after you grounded it did you look in it to see if it was working? I ask this because I did the same thing and thought it wasn't working. I then shined a light in it and it was actually working. The red light was telling me that the bulb timer was all used up. I reset the bulb timer and the red lights went away.
What I am saying is you might have it fixed and you don't know it. Shine a light in it even if the red lights are blinking to make sure.

anybody have any kind of clue?
"Lamp cover switch" ?
Some operate via a plastic Slider on the Lamp Unit
to also check a Lamp is fitted.

yes i push down the lamp cover switch also.
if i connect the 5v and 0v/ wire when its on. the lamp light will turn right. and the power light will go from green to red.
if i turn the projector off, then turn it on. the green led power button comes on, followed by a green led for lamp. then the power turns from green to orange, and the green lamp led will just blink continously.
this is really frustrating my bc im all out of options!!
just so you know. the ballast is completely out of the circuit. but i dont think thats a problem??

It does sound like the PJ is detecting a Lamp error
You might have two switches
One for the Lamp cover
and another to say a Lamp is fitted
Without a cct diagram its hard to say for certain

the projector did not come with a bulb. only a metal housing.
i cannot find a diagram for this thing at all!
like i said. there was 4 smaller gauge wires comming off the ballast circuit. then a two wire connector that was red/black. im assuming they were power to the coil.
the ballast is completely removed from the circuit.
the only things i can think of is maybe i need to have a small voltage drop to 3.3v to one of those wires with no current. maybe it needs to recongnize a 5v to maybe 3v drop across a load to bypass?
or maybe its not detecting the presence of the coil? maybe i need to put a high resistor to close that circuit also??
i see a brief picture in the lcds when i first startup. until the lamp error.
there seems to be a little circuit board on the back of the projector.. the seems to be a light detection switch possibly? its a little circuit board with a black ball on it that sticks out of the projector.
but i dont see how that would detect the bulb because it doesnt come into contact to or around the bulb.
im not sure what to do. what other switches could there be?

heres a pretty generic diagram for toshiba projectors. maybe they all use the same circuit?
what should i try?

so theres two optocouples on the ballast board that are in series with these 4 wires.
a 5v and 0v wire for one opto. and the same for the other.
how can i bypass these?!

SUCCESS!
turns out everything was wired perfectly.
turns out im just an idiot.
the air filter tray was removed. and theres a switch located under it. that was my whole problem!!
the projector works fine. i retrofited a 12v bulb that kinda looks like an ohp bulb that i got from home depot. and i got reasonable results. but i still have alot of work to do lighting wise.
it seems hid is the best way to go with lighting.
but before i sink atleast 70 bucks on this thing. anybody have know a better bulb i could use?
i saw the instructables on using the 250w worklamp bulb. but i dont think id be comfortable with putting something that gets super hot in my projector.
anybody know any good lamps. preferably one i can get from stores like home depot and lowes?
