I have the front of the lcd with a dark layer fairly thick. I looked desperately to see if there is a thinner clear layer first but there is not. I only see a dark thick layer which i already started removing but only partially before it tore. I am currently soaking it with 20% acetone and 80% water but its not really moving easily after 4 hours.

I am seeing a definite difussion effect with this layer but since there is no clear layer before, what layer is this? I don`t think its the polarizer because i see yet another layer after this before i reach the raw glass. Could i be looking at a polarizer and AG fused as one layer by the factory?

If it is infact a polarizer, can i reuse it by placing it before the triplet?

ok. it turns out it is infact a polarizer and anti-glare fused sheet. I am very surprised and dissapointed. I never would have imagined this. So, i have already started peeling one corner but the rest is just not coming off very easily after 4 hours of acetone and water mix.

At this point i think i should continue forward and remove it all then just use a pure pola either at lens or mounted to the FS mirror before the triplet.

I need some help on how to completely remove it now. Should i just continue soaking it for like 24 hours?

ok. that first layer came off this morning just fine. To my surprise there is another layer underneath that is diffused but clear. As in, it looks like an anti-glare sheet. This is the strangest monitor i have ever seen.

I am now soaking this other layer which i`m sure will come off easily but my concern now is putting the polarizer back in the light path. I`m reluctant to spend more money since the lcd is slighly damaged.
(bottom 2/3 horizontally are visible as in 2:1 aspect ratio)

So as i understand, i can purchase another polarizer made specifically for lcd panels and apply it since they come with adhesive already. Or, i must place this polarizer somewhere in the light path? Can it be placed on a frame and right after the lcd?

Have you tested the LCD out to make sure it doesn't have two polar layers? It's not unheard of for an LCD to have a second (seemingly unnecessary) polar layer.

Well, all i know is the lcd did not not display an image without this polarizer. I put a light behind it. What i did not do however, is flip it the other way around. That is, run the light through the front side and see.

Well, i managed to remove the anti-glare now also which was the second layer but, it came of with starts and stops, so it left lines of residue all over the place. Alcohol did not clean it off. What should i use?

Edit, it seems alcohol is in fact removing it.
Can someone tell me what the best option is for me now incase i need to replace the polarizer? Should i just buy a lcd replacement polarizer and apply it to the lcd again? Or if i do buy another polarizer should i just put it on a glass and put it after the lcd?
