I live around a lot of farming area. The dust and dirt is crazy. I have 2 Vehicles that are outside all the time. I have read a lot of "do it" and "dont do it" regarding cleaning the engine of a car with a pressure washer. So this question is for all you auto people. Whats the SAFEST way to do this without damaging anything or should it not even be done. Any input greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Excellent write-up. I have nothing significant to add to that...

Thanks guys! I have seen people just blasting away at the engine I figured I would ask the smart guys here before I did anything. I am no mechanic. I can change oil, change spark plugs, and just little things like that so I do appreciate the help.

I do similar to the instruction posted. But I go the car wash, and place a plastic bag over the alternater, then spray the car wash degreaser, then wash with the water. I DO NOT pull the trigger on the spray gun when washing off with the water, the water comes out at sufficent pressure to wash away the degreaser.
