Could not resist posting this. I hope I've attached the photo correctly.

Parts are from an OHP. Projection is backwards, fuzzy, and edges of LCD are not projected. Still a lot of work to do while waiting for standard parts. But, considering that room lights are on and that there's no box to contain the light, I'm quite chuffed at the results.

Congrats on your first test projection. I don't want to ruin your dreams mate, but your projection there is pretty small. If you move it twice as far back, you get an image 4 times the area, and one quarter the light.

Most everybody gets stoked with that "first projection". It makes one proud to look at their first projected image and be able to say to yourself, "I did that".
I still remember mine, quite fondly.

Congrats!

who is that reading in the back ground? That is a good picture considering all the other lights are on.

Side question, how is it with all the plants inside the house? Does it help the air quality?

Thanks for raining on my parade, chrissilich biggrin.gif

Yeah, I know it's pretty pitiful when compared to everyone else's work but Quasi Mojo nailed it on the head with his "I did that". There was also a bit of "Holy @#$%, it actually works!!"

I am hoping to acquire some real parts soon but in the meantime I have to make do with what I have. I'll build a cheap box for this Mickey Mouse setup and try to fine tune the image.

With any luck, I may come up with something worthy - even if it's not Hall of Fame material.

Thanks, frankenstein. That's the better half, not reading but snoozing in front of the TV while I play with my toys.

Yes, I think the plants do help with the air. Unfortunately, I have not been able to train them to do anything about the dust. Next project, maybe?

Congrats!!! And to add to Quasi's comment: Even after months and months of mine being up and working, and tons of hours I still get that "I did this" feeling every time I fire it up and see the desktop appear on the wall. Its a great feeling and in some ways it gets better when you have about a two dozen of your family or friends sitting around watching a movie. Its just great!

I like your green room

Thanks Windcalmer and ywh for your comments and moral support.

The fresnels in this setup are unsplit. They are still sandwiched in the plexiglass the way they were in the OHP. Is there a way to gauge optimum placement other than trial and error? I have them squashed up against the light source side of the LCD frame now. Should I try to split them or would that be opening a big can of worms? Will splitting them help at all with light distribution / focus or is splitting only useful for keystone correction?

If I should leave the fresnels as they are and where they are, I will have a problem with the left and right sides of the LCD not being illuminated. This may be a minor issue since most windows can be sized manually, but it is something I'd like to fix. Anyone know of a way to shrink the Windows desktop? In the backward screenshot I posted, the right edge of the projection is pretty well aligned with the right edge of my gyproc (plasterboard) screen. The desktop icons are definitely missing a few pixels on the right side. I'm not sure how much was cut off on the left - I ran out of screen.
