I was wondering if anyone could give me a hand as my xbox is no longer working.

I was playing a game then all of a sudden the image went a bit odd, almost as if the resolution had been turned down. I paused and unpaused the game with no effect. i got bored and turned off the console.

When trying to turn on the console again, it powers up but no image is displayed. Currently i am using component connection and was displaying at 1080p. My tv says 'mode not supported' when the xbox is turned on. It is as if the console is working as when holding down the guide button you can still remotely turn off.

I have tried turning both tv and console off, using vga, red-yellow-white (scart connection) and then even using a vga on a computer monitor i used to use and still nothing.

It just seems that it can no longer display an image. Is this the end of my console?

I've had a similar case just 2 days ago - my Xbox360 started displaying very strange colours, as if very the screen went turquisoe or green, and then other times it would just show no image or sound. I've heard that the problem is with the GPU and unfortunately the only way to fix it is to have it sent in.

I have read mixed stories on the internet of the reason for this and there is no consistent answer. mine is out of warranty and some people mentioned that the xclamp fix worked but am dubious about whether to try it or not?

The xclamp is probably worth a shot if your xbox 360 is not working and out of warranty. You don't have much to loss. Though I would take it to a computer swap meet and see what they have to say there (that's given that you do have someone there that repairs such problems). smile.gif I had it done with one of my two xbox 360's when it stopped working and haven't had a problem since (only cost me $30Au to). smile.gif

So I'm thinking the xbox is done! dry.gif and it is about time to get a new one. But i was thinking, is there anyway to transfer all my saved games, profiles etc onto the new hard drive?

Did you attempt the xclamp fix? It could save you a bundle.

why would you get a new harddrive? You can just get a new console CORE and put your harddrive in it.

I had the same problem so i just bought an elite. I like it lots... but it has been at least a year.

im gonna look into this xclamp thing,,, cuz microsoft pulled a scam on me and never fixed mine.

I was looking at the idea of just buying the arcade version then using my old hard drive but thought since i am paying a lot anyway...why not go elite!?
I could just use my old hard drive for the saved games but i have a lot of downloaded content that i would want to transfer as well. Normally this would not be a problem but when i created my account i did not have a hotmail account to link it to so created a quick one that i had no intention of using. anyhow, i forgot this password and putting in random details i have no idea about any of the information to access the account at all.

There is a way to transfer between hard drives using a cable but to 'migrate' the codes for the downloaded content i need access to this email account which i can't do. Any ideas?

I am yet to try the xclamp fix as i do not have any of the torx wrenches or what ever they are to unscrew the bolts. I did try using a small flat head but its not overly effective. Once they arrive will have a go and see if i can fix it but i am not holding out much hope.

As for managing to use the downloaded content on another console without my email account details is proving more of an annoyance and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. biggrin.gif

The xclamp mod will fix this issue, ive repaired several hundred 360's , this is basically a e74 error thats 2 far along to display it.

its the gpu , not the cpu causing your issue.

cpu = rrod
gpu = your issue or e74 ( somtimes rrod)

After a bit of fiddling to open up the xbox the xclamps are now installed and it works perfectly again! still have the issue of having my gamertag linked to an email that i cannot access though but its better than nothing! tongue.gif

The trouble is it wants my old password to the hotmail account i made up with random details over 2 years ago before i can put in a new one. Not sure if there is any way to get round this fine piece of stupidity on my part! all i wanted was an instant account and feel i am paying for it now. i cant even remember why i needed to link my account to an email address in the first place! dry.gif

just call 18004myxbox and goto live. then explain it to them. you should have no problem chagining it as long as you can verify the other account details to them
