http://cgi.ebay.com/New-2-5-Mini-Color-LCD...%3A1|240%3A1318anyone know if this is usable?
its very low resolution 480x234, but its only 35 bucks and it could use cheap optics.
ive been lurking around for a while, this is my first post!
im contemplating buying one.

I did something similar for my first build and it ended up really just being a waste of money. A lcd with this low of a resolution is really only good for animated stuff at most. People look horrible and pixelated.
If you want something smaller then average and less expensive then averge, go for a 7" 800x480 lcd. This same seller had a 3.5" 640x480 lcd in the past... if you message him he might relist it for you, and some day he may have a controller for the 800x480 4.8" lcd. VGA is probably good enough for watching tv and playing old game systems if you dont stretch it too far. WVGA would be good enough for dvds, its what the higher end portable dvd players have.

lol, i shouldve read this sooner.
i just got a sanyo projector for 60 bucks shipped with a blown bulb, im going to try and rig up a cheapo lamp.
its a 3 lcd type, so im contemplating either slapping a new bulb in the existing reflector sled or putting in 3 led's behind the actual lcd panels.
no idea how its going to work until i actually get my hands on it. thanks for the links though if this falls through ill prolly get that 800x480 unit.

A single ended 150watt MH bulb or a 100watt xenon should do the trick. Unless you have a room that can be pitch black, I wouldn't do leds.

i got a whole basement to work with, so light shouldnt be a problem.
im thinking against the led's anyways, mainly bc they arent that cheap, and there isnt enough room for them.
im trying to look up info on the original bulb, its a 160watt mercury bulb.
the projector is a sanyo PLC-XP07N.
do you think ill be able to use the projectors ballast with a 150watt bulb or will it explode?

I think the original ballast should work if the lamps are both designed for approximately the same voltage. People have overdriven lamps by over 50 watts I believe, so it shouldn't be a problem the 10 more watts, it will just shorten lamp life a little.

i cant find much info on the bulb or ballast. theres tons of people selling the bulb + assembly, but no info on exactly what the bulb is, or even what current it accepts.
