Hi, Guys I have a ONKYO TX-SR605 that I want to use in my Home Theater Room.

I want to go the DIY Route and build my own speaker boxes but I'm not sure which drivers to use, could you guy recommend some good speakers. wink.gif
The room I'm using is about 35x18, its pretty long so i was wondering if I should use 4ohm's for the side speakers so I could hook up two in series.

there are a lot of good prices at at http://www.parts-express.com

also they have a nice builder page here: http://www.parts-express.com/resources/build-a-speaker.cfm

Well this topic is alot about personal preference. I have built and designed many speaker systems in my life, how-ever as I'm building them everyone tells me I'm crazy and I didnt do my numbers. However the final product turns out to be a surprise to everyone (sometimes including myself). I'm a fan of line arrays (a bunch of speakers stacked closely to make a vertical array). They work great in large rooms due to their very low volume drop off rate. They can fill a room with sound without have to stress the speakers, or have everyone in the neighborhood listening to your movie. However they get expensive fast! I was going to build a pair using 12 3" drivers per side, however parts express discontinued them before I could get an order in.

As far as your case, I'd use the lowest impedance drivers you can with that amp. Most amps have ratings for the lowest resistance it can handle, go with that. You'll get the highest volume without blowing your amp.

But let me ask another question. Are you want to build boxes and everything? Or are you trying to find a set of speakers pre built?

Thanks for the reply. I want to build the entire setup boxes and all, also I wanted to use some 6 1/2 woofers with tweeters but I am open to any suggestions.
I think i will take a look into the line array.

BTW: the lowest impedance it can handle is 8 ohm. so should i just stick to one speaker per channel?

Efficiency isn't great, its about average. Xmax is low for a speaker this size. Fs is very low, which is good if you need these to go low. For your large room you may want to keep looking for a more efficient driver (efficiency will make a huge difference in overall power required), but then again, price to performance ratio, these might not be a bad idea.

Does your receiver have pre-outs? If so you could run external amplifiers for more push to the speakers that need it most (center and fronts). You have a very large room to fill with sound, and my experience is limited in these large areas, so hopefully others will chime in with some good tips.
