I know this isn't a Mac or PC forum exclusively, but from the post I've been reading, you all are pretty knowledgeable in multiple areas of computing and hacking...so I thought I could throw this question at you and see what comes back.

I picked up an iMac G4 with a 15" flatscreen about a week ago. It was cheap because the LCD screen is cracked, but I figured I could connect a separate screen to check out if the innards are any good. AND now I know why I'm not a Mac...I have been back and forth to Fry's trying to find the right DVI to VGA adapter and after 3x I say forget it. So, I took the thing apart to see if I could pull the LCD screen from my old Compaq laptop and use it in this G4. The size is okay, and it should fit, but the connection doesn't match. They are both 20 pin connectors, but one is shorter in length than the other.

Can someone tell me how to remove the connector from the LG LP150X2 (larger 20 pin) and connect the piece from the broken LCD (the smaller one) to get it to work in the G4...or basically, can this be done at all?? I'm pulling my hair out, and would appreciate it if someone could explain...in an "LCD panels for Dummies" sort of way. I'm fascinated by all this techie stuff, but don't yet have a lot of hands on experience.

Thanks a bunch,

Even if you get the connector ends to match correctly, the Mac laptop controller board is probably not programmed to work with the LCD you want to replace it with. You'd have to find the exact same LCD that was in the Mac previously (or a replacement part specified by Apple).

I know you're not asking if you can use it in a projector, but there's further reading in the FAQ section: http://www.lumenlab.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=25475
