Hi everyone! Sure is quiet around here...must have something to do with the elections, ya think? cool.gif

Now, most of you know that I don't allow political and religious discussion on the boards, and this post is no exception. Instead, this is a little demo designed for a some fun during an historic election. Today at the grocery I saw these big slabs of both brown and white chocolate. I thought I'd get one of each and carve McCain and Obama on the white and brown blocks respectively!

I want an excuse to practice since I am considering making carvings of my family and friends on chocolate to hand out as Season's Greetings. I figured the losing guy would either get melted down live on our webcam, or I might give them away for some reason or another....

Aside from the political significance, I find this little project to be historically unique; you guys know how I feel about CNC food! I'll post my depthmaps and such coming up tonight...

I'd say they look pretty good, but I wonder if there's some better ones out there.

Oh wait; it turns out those models are $125... nevermind. For $125 I think I'd go with the depth map as well.

That is such a cool idea!! I kope you don't mind if I try that too. I can see it for birthday parties, graduations, lots of occassions. I just hope I can get micRo working in time.

Do you need to keep the X-Y speed high to keep from melting the chocolate from melting? I'm glad you tested with a micRo out of the freezer. Maybe the milling has to be done in low temp? Is semi-sweet better than milk chocolate?

I can't stop thinking about chocolate now...Peoples names on little rectangles, models of cars, trophies, business cards, STILL LIFES,.......MURALS........!! It boggels the mind!

DEATH MASKS, Now there's one!

What about making molds apposed to cutting the chocolate directly.

Would be far less wasteful in chocolate and could be reused. How about home made chocolate Christmas calender (popular in the UK anyway).

Brain if you want to make multiples for gifts perhaps making a plug for a mold http://www.culinart.net/catalog.html

Hey everyone!

Well Robin and I had some fun yesterday but I wouldn't call the experiment a resounding success. Then again, I don't have all the time in the world to be goofing around with chocolate! Basically the amount of relief I'm looking for needs real 3d. The problem with a depthmap from grayscale is that it can't really make 3d. Things like eyebrows become sunk in the head, as they are darker than the surrounding, and the program just equates dark with depth. Still, I think Obama came out ok considering what little work I did on him...

Now, for reasons unknown to me, McCain came out looking a little "rough"..

Man, what a mess!

Next was the "torch test" or trial by fire....who will melt first? I think this is an accurate picture of what we see at the polls today!

So you're saying Obama can take the heat but McCain would have a meltdown? unsure.gif laugh.gif
