Hello all..

My question is regarding LCDs in general, not for just diy pjs::

Is there is a different between the produced image from DVI output to a DVI LCD port, and the produced image from DVI output to a D-sub(VGA) using a DVI-VGA Converter in between?

And what is the different between using the two setups overall??

thanks

Yes but more details are needed.

In theory, DVI can handle more colors (bit depth) and resolution.

In practice, most people (I doubt here) have been mind shunted into beleiveing that 8 bit color is all there is to see. If you are using an LCD monitor, odds are that is what you are used to as well. This is actually why the nVidia 8800 series got away with "4x AA for free" with thie CSAA implementation. (They left out color smapling.. so you were left with that flat color image that most people have on an LCD but are so used to now).

I recently picked up some 24" sony widescreen CRTs and although I can see the tradeoff worth (size space and electrical power) the details and color my games have now is atronoical.

So back to your question...

Yes there is a differnce. but in practice if you have an LCD monitor no you will not notice a difference. (thoush many will say they can)

ok so take for instance a persistent world such as Vanguard or WoW. IMO vanguard has more eyecandy however the new WoW xpac is said to be gorgeous as well. Qustion I guess is -

Which display would actually benefit most? a new CRT or an LCD display? Obviously our PJ's use LCDs so how to make up for any loss vibrancy etc?

I'm intrigued
