I was building my projector a few years back. As I was installing the LCD my friend's great Dane decided to get playful. I never replaced the LCD and all my projector stuff has been collecting dust in the closet.

I ended up buying a 46" lcd and my desire for a projector (or at least to build one) has faded as I've moved on to other projects. Summer in NY is coming to a close and my completely out of place plants (fig trees, lemon trees, etc) are starting to slow down for the year. I've been thinking about moving the growing indoors and re-purposing my S400DD as a grow light. It's brighter and closer to full spectrum than most of the florescent bulbs I've seen (that don't cost an arm and a leg as a specialty item), plus it get's nice and hot which is a bonus.

On the other hand, I remember reading that they pump out UV as well. How safe are these bulbs in terms of health? I'm just curious as to whether I should shut it off when I tend to the plants...or leave it on and work on my tan? I know they are advertised for public lighting so they can't be toooooo harmful....but then again I don't get one arm's distance to a street-light bulb.
