Full Version: Tiny hairline scratches

So I bought a scratched monitor on ebay. Great specs, but an infamous LG panel inside. I was right when I decided it looked like the scratch was just in the AG, the front AG is off and the scratch is gone. I was worried about the hard coating on this, but it came off easily after several hours of soaking. But after cleaning the front, there are tiny hairline scratches in the polarizer. Are these going to affect the projection much?

Also, I peeled up part of the polarizer in the corner before I realized it was coming up, but it didnt tear and stuck back down. It's a tiny area, only hitting a few pixels on the edge. That should be fine.

These hairline scratches you see on the polar after the A/G soak go only diagonal and all are the same direction, right?

Nope. I think it's from dust or something when I cleaned the screen, they mostly go horizontally and vertically, not diagonal, and it's hard to see them unless you look closely.

Good, then it's a good sign that it's not the polar graining.

So that means it should be fine then?

Yes, you should be fine. Since both polars (front and back of the panel) are placed opposite angle of each other- graining of either side will actually appear diagonally with the panel.

Although, I wouldn't guarantee that it will not grain after time, now that the polar is exposed without it's protective top TAC/AG.
