Hey dudes,

I've done a lot of reading here on LumenLab, and I already learn a lot about building your own PJ.

I still need to buy some stuff, so it would be great you guys would help me out. Can anyone of you tell me the difference between standard fresnels and triplet, and the pro stuff. Is it really worth the money to buy the pro ?

Thanx for the help and sorry for my bad english. I'm european, so english is not my 1st language. But I can manage ... I guess ... lol

The difference in triplets is the pro is a lot larger, has a wider field of view and a longer throw. The advantages being the ability to use larger panels, better light distribution from corner to corner and being able to put the projector further back ie. behind your seat.

The pro frensels are simly larger as i seem to remember...the standard lenses would not cover panels such as the 15.4" wuxga that is particularly popular on here. There are other frensels available from various other sites if you have more specific size requirements. Lenses also exist to produce a better image by having more 'grooves' to produce a higher resolution.

Hey,

Quite clear what you're telling.

I'm planning on building my PJ on the 10.9" LCD, doing 720p, using a thow of something about 4.5 meters. The idea is to get an image on the wall of 120" or so, pretty neat I would say.

So, I think best choice would be: 220mm - 650mm fresnels, and the pro triplet, due to the long throw ...

You need to use the FocalCalc to check your dimensions.

If you need the 4.5 meter throw, you'll only end up with about a 101 inch diagonal screen.

If you want a 120 inch screen, you'll have to have a 5.25 meter throw.

If you decided to go with the S15 Lens Kit, this is what it'd look like:

Hey Quasi_Mojo

Thanx for your help on this. I'd better get using that FocalCalc myself, very usefull tool I must admit.

I did some FocalCalc calculations, and came up with this ....

Looks like there's not much of a difference between the 650mm field fresnel, and the 550mm. Which one should I use, combined with the 500mm pro triplet ?

Quasi_Mojo
I didn't know that LL sold a 550mm fresnel.
Whichever one works best for you.
