Hypothetically speaking: I've built the projector. Where does the video come from?

I take it, the default means is via a PC. What about a standalone blu-ray player? ...a HD set-top box?

My own understanding is that it shouldn't be as simple as 'plug-in and play'.

Your typical LCD controller will have a variety of inputs. Your signal source is almost unlimited. Peeps use PC's, DVD players, cable/satellite, a digital image recorder, game consoles, whatever. If the controller can process the signal then your projector can display it.

It depends on the inputs your LCD screen will have. If you use a standard LCD, you will probably only have a VGA or DVI input and you will be able to connect you PC to it, if you invest in a controller with decent inputs you will probably have an HDMI and composite inputs for bluray player or any other player that you want.
