I won at an auction 5 Commercial Projectors...for 150 bucks (australian)
Now I didnt think Id get much for my money..but WOW..one in particular is a mean Light Cannon...it has a Quad Light Engine and is a 3LCD.

SONY VPL-X2000 - 2400lumens ...back in 2000 the unit retailed for something like $49K LOL
Its a Bohemoth !! of a thing..but very well built..and still works : )

BROCHURE
http://www.projektoren-datenbank.com/pdf/sonyvplx2000u_m.pdf

I fired it up not expecting it to work..but hey up she came...only issue ..missing the Lens !!
I have a few old lenses (Beseler/Buhl)...but you have to have the lens a foot away from the housing and then you only get a small picture...so I need some help as to how I can get the right size image.

The details of the original STANDARD (VPLL-Z2019) Lens is

# Motorized Zoom
# Motorized lens shift
# 1.3 times zoom capability
# Zoom Capability: 1.3
# Throw Ratio: 1.90 - 2.40:1
# F Number: 2.5 - 3.0
# Focal Length: 71.0 - 92.3mm
# Shift: 0 - 13 mm

Any help on figuring this one out..would be most appreciated

Does one of the other projectors have a lens?

It’s going to be costly replacing 4 lamps ohnoes.gif laugh.gif

Yes they do..

Here' the list of the other projectors
Sayett Mediashow (10 inch single panel LCD..with Halogen Lamps)
Sanyo PLC-9000EA (3LCD, 1.8 inch, 2100 lumen light cannon )
Infocus LP340 (DLP, 0.8 inch DMD)
Vivitek AV400 (3LCD, 1.2 inch)

I tried the one out of the Sayett..but on closer inspection the Sayett is projecting from a large singular LCD (10 inch approx) ..so its focal length is too long..the Sayett looks like a great candidate for a HD panel upgrade though.

The Sanyo is probably closest..its LCD's are 1.8 inch the same as the Sony...the Vivitek's lens diameter is probably too small..

PLC-9000EA --> Standard Lens PLC-LNS04
THROW 1.8-2.9:1
F Value 2.6-3.5
Max Diam 95mm

I guess Im not sure what Im doing with any of these at the moment..yet Id like to get as many going as possible...not sure I want to sacrifice the Sanyo lens for the Sony..I sure could see if it works though for a try..perhaps I need to look out for a spare lens with short focal length and big enough for the 1.8 inch LCD. ?!..

I guessed it was just to easy to think I could just get a 2.5 inch diam short focal lens and use it replacing one of the lenses in the beseler or buhl.

Lamp Cost
Yes ..it would cost something like $800 dollars a lamp for the SONY ..LOL..still its fun whilst it lasts..!

The PLC9000's lamp is a metal halide ! 400Watt...Lamp is blown. (400 bucks to replace)

How about one of those CRT TV Lenses..short focal length...guessing I would not get much distance between screen and projector yet have a large projected image...what do you think ?

If the FL is simular then it will project simular to the original in regards to ratios. Slide projector or medium format photography lenses etc.

Out of curiosity how does the Sony use the 4 lamp set up, overlay or side by side?

I never thought of slide projectors or Camera lenses !..though the clear aperture has to be approx 2 inch.

So it might be worth a try with a CRT TV lens

Im going to take some pics of all these projectors..all interesting stuff.. (was going to today but camera bat is flat LOL)

if you look at the first post you will see the lamps 2 on 2 as a square of light...not game to take this one apart just yet..while its still working.

You wouldnt be interested in parting with one of the 3LCD projectors so I can do some testing with aftermarket HID Lamps Would Ya?

Cost to send could be a problem..are you in the US ?

I may have lucked an original Sony replacement zoom lens...don't want to speak too soon (its not in my hands yet)..however it cost me just 30 bucks..so I will be very happy once I have it.
cromaclearcrt
Ive got the Standard Lens and this thing works a treat...it has built in powerful speakers (I just found)
so one working cannon now...just need a decent screen..(Projecting onto a Dark wall at the moment...still a bright picture)

Will also start looking at all these others I have to see what we can do with them.

Just dismantled the Infocus LP340 (DLP) Projector..the lamp has only 80 hours on it..the picture from it though looked awful..

I found the light tunnels glue had turned black..hence the weird light pattern projected.

I went to take the tunnel out and it disintegrated LOL

Put it all back together..without the tunnel..and guess what..it now works..even picture..not as bright as the Sony quad..but to be expected..nice smooth picture though...

Enough time for bed..

Anyone got ideas of what to stick four sides of a small light tunnel together with?!

what could I stick them back together with ? is the big question..

the glue has to be high temp resistant but also be able to glue successfully the sides of the mirror tunnel together.

I was thinking epoxy-resin but thinking it wont like the heat.....

Anyone any ideas ?

Cheers

Moving onto the SANYO PLC-9000 now...it need s a new lamp..however its not a UHP..its a 400w metal halide.

So Im wondering if...

I could use a 400w Metal Halide Sylvania BRITEARC single ended and fit it to the existing reflector.
model# BA 400 SE HR 67volts 6.9 Amps

The big question is...would it strike up OK..????

Anyone want to hazard a guess ????

more info on these lamps:

If they work they would be a cheap alternative as they are a 1/4 of the price of the OEM lamp

I remember someone started a thread on converting/modding a commercial with a similar metal halide lamp..all with pics ..but do you think I can find it now ..lol

Cheers
