Full Version: Large Hadron Collider
Turns on in half an hour. I for one welcome our new found event horison situated in Switzerland.
I thought it was tomorrow, but I just realized it is tomrrow over there.
I wonder if I'll feel the ground shake. Hmmmm. I would love to be there when they throw the switch.

I think they are only switching it on to test its operation. Particle collision is on another date
I heard October 21st when they do the Official Unveiling...
I love hearing the people all screaming about black holes. Honestly I swear some of these folks get their physics ideas from the National Enquirer.
What most people are missing is the endevour itself. Even if they only verify the existence of the Higgs particle, then they still manged to get the collaboration of half the particle physicists in the world ONSITE and funding from nearly every country on Earth to do it.
Proof that we, as a race of Humans, CAN set aside our petty squabbles in the pursuit of something greater than ourselves.
But we will sink back into it as its nearly forgotten until someone starts bitching about the cost, resources etc.

My kids came home saying that we lived throught the black hole at 330 and we were o.k. now,,this is from the teachers at high school..

yeah this is a bit late - but I just found this.. I find this extremely disheartening - unless the teacher was just trying to calm some kid who spazzed about it in class.
I truly hope he/she wasn't serious about this.
