It should work, if set to "cooling" mode.

In this mode, it would switch on your fans when the temperature gets to be above the preset point.

Caveats: These are designed to operate furnaces/AC units, which often have a maximum duty cycle. It does not specify, but if you cannot set the duty cycle to 100%, then it can't be used. It it only runs your fans for (as an example) 5 minutes out of every 15, then your projector is going to overheat.

The temperature probe may not like the kind of normal temperatures that the inside of a projector will reach. It's not normal for an interior room to reach these kinds of temperatures, and depending on the components of the thermostat, this may cause them to fail. These units are intended to measure ambient temperatures, and so they take the temperature of the air that the unit is in.

Also, the unit is battery operated. This means that if the battery dies, your projector may soon follow. (I'd certainly re-wire it to work off of AC power, at the very least, to eliminate this possibility.) Another possibility is to wire it so that if the fans go off, the lamp cannot be powered on, though this will take a bit of doing to ensure that you can start up the lamp in the first place.

All in all, I'd rather look for an "attic" thermostat first, as these are more in keeping with the design goal.

whats the difference between an attic thermostat and a normal one? could you also show me an example of a attic thermostat. i want the fans to come on when the PJ is on and carry on running when switched off until the box is cooled to a certain temperature.

Since you are not in the USA I dont know where you can get one. At least you know what it looks like now wink.gif

this is what most people use

What you're looking for is a bi-metal thermal switch.
Perhaps somebody smarter than I can help you pick one out from the list I linked to.

Here's a (maybe) useful thread on Cooling The Box.

Or maybe you can use something like this (eBay.co.uk link).
