Hi all, I was in the process of building a projector when I found this Proxima Desktop LCD projector on EBay for $198.00. I couldn't resist and bought it, the bulbs cost $16.00 but only last 20hours. Hope you all can help me, with these problems. First I need a replacement bulb, It uses a FXL 410w, 32v. 2nd the fan’s very noisy 3rd, the light or picture dims then goes bright any ideas will be greatly appreciated. And thank you in advance.

This realy is off topic for a Do-it-Yourself projector website, but I'm going to allow it, I did move it out of the project gallery forum, however.

Sorry about my first post, it's just that when I saw they every ones building there projectors I figured that I could cut corners by using an old projector that basically have all the same designs and parts and would modify it with parts from your forum, but I guess I was wrong, sorry again.

Sounds like you got a bad deal bzrut. I'm guessing you got either the 2400 or 2800. You would've done better to build your own for that price. I suggest putting it back on eBay. The dimming is caused mostly by it being an older passive matrix LCD. That projector just isn't worth it.

Hey guys thanks for your replies, I was going to do what DR BEV suggested, but like Hyper Smiley said the LCD is an older matrix type that is causes the dimming, I’m not sure what I’ll do yet. Maybe I’ll just go ahead and rebuild this old DP2800 beast, like changing the LCD and Bulbs. The housing, and optic lens are in perfect condition; I’ll be taking pix of this project. Thanks again and any ideas please advice. Bzrut.
