Up front = I do not have a clue but willing to give this a try.
My Dell 1707FP LCD will no longer power up............just like that. 2.5 yrs old on a 2yr warranty....

Troubleshooting points to a "power" problem. Reading other web info it appears there are a couple of capacitors that can be replaced & it will solve the problem. After "breaking in", I've done an initial search & the capacitor #s mentioned don't seem to present on this model.

Another observation = a couple of the eletrical parts on the circuit board have hard white "goo" attached/surrounding them at the base.......is that normal?

I will keep looking for info........anyone else been thru this?

Thanks in advance!

try giving us a bit more info when you press the power button dose nothing happen or dose the lights come on but no picture or hard disk fails to spin up. look for damage to the cables running from mobo to lcd. look for lose power lead connector as well any one of these can stop a laptop firmware from booting.

your wight goo is worrying its either glue to secure parts(wirrless, ram, conectors etc...) for lateral movement or it could be capacitors leaking.

as its a dell i would go for capacitors have gone(dell known to use cheap parts)

hibble: Thanks for reply.

When I pushed the power button on the LCD.........absolutely nothing happened.......no lo level light ie; LCD on but np signal from PC (this is a desktop BTW), no green light as normal, nothing.

I did troubleshooting by myself + with Dell tech......swapped power cable, disconnected VGA cable, etc.................absolutely nothing.

So I grabbed an old CRT from a recycling place to keep me going & took the LCD apart

There are 2 circuit boards inside and I'm guessing the faulty capacitors are on the board with the power connector........but that's an uneducated guess. I just need to determine the right capacitor(s) to change out.

If you think the caps are bad they will look like the cap in the front see how its bulging and the other 2 are flat on top you will have to desloder the bad one and find one that has the same specs and solder it back in making sure to keep the + and - the same order. It could be a fuse! Do you have a multi-meter and know how to use it wink.gif

I did disclosure that I did not have a clue = clueless wink.gif .............but I will march on.

None of the caps on this board look like it's bulging but I'll go over each one. The white goo is the only thing that looked strange........but see #1 = clue

Multi-meter - yup, headed down that dark road next

Fuse - don't see anything that looks like that..............but plan to go over both boards with fresh eyes today.
I'll try to clean up this photo but you can see the white goo at the bottom of one at the top of the photo
