Hello all, im not sure if this is the best place to post this.. but i dont wanna join another forum and i figured someone where would know.

I have a Panasonic Car Stereo that has 1 AUX (RCA) input in the back, i currently have my Sirius Satellite radio plugged into it. I want to add an audio jack so i can plug in my MP3 player or Cell phone into it.

I was thinking of adding a Y connector to split the 1 AUX input into 2 so i wouldnt have to switch cables.

Is this possible? i read somewhere that it could cause problems if both outputs were running. Is there a low cost or DIY solution to split 1 AUX input into 2?

I would like to have the ability to run both at the same time, so i could have the satellite radio running and have my phone plugged in and if i get a call i could pause the radio and have the sound from my phone come through the car speakers.

yeah,, that would work.. but where would i mount that hideous thing? lol,.. it dont think it would match my cars interior..

I've found a bunch of commercial car audio switches.. but they want alot of money for something that should be a simple thing...

maybe i can find a wiring diagram.. so i can diy one up.

You just unwire the switch , extend the wires , paint the switch black and mount it in your dash.

Or buy a black 3 position switch and use it.

Pretty simple for a DIY'er smile.gif

I have this one in my car, but then you will need 3.5mm to rca adapters. :

There will be some antenuation.

I ended up just using a DPDT 3way, center off, swtich. It seems to work, although when hooked up to my mp3 player through the headphone jack the sound is quieter.. is that cause its not presenting the proper load? mp3 player expects a 10ohm pair of headphones.. is there a way to make it louder?

12V relays. You need 3. You'll also need 2 pairs of RCA jacks.

One relay for Right, one for Left, and one for Ground.

Pin 30 on all 3 relays is wired to the deck. I'd probably hack an old RCA cable that I had lying around somewhere for this.

Pin 87 on all three is wired to an "Input A" set.

Pin 87A on all three is wired ot an "Input B" set.

Pin 85 on all of them is wired to ground.

Pin 86 is wired to a switch, providing accessory 12VDC power.

Turn the switch off, and all the relays go to Normally Closed position. Input A is active. (Also happens when the ignition is turned off.)

Turn the switch on, and all the relays go to Normally Open position. Input B is active.

Input A is NEVER connected to Input B, not even resistively, so you never get wierd feedback, or odd attenuation problems.

I've used this several times in the past.

12V relays (2 position) generally cost about $5 each, though I had them lying around. Two stereo RCA Male - Female cables at the Dollar store, $2. 12V illuminated switch at local auto parts store, $2.99. Total, $19.99.
