Full Version: Tweaking question...

It may have been asked, I was not able to find this very answer...

I am in the tweaking phase of things right now, and I have done all the "small bulb" testing I can. I am now at the point where I have my MH bulb back in the PJ and am testing trying to the brightest and most well focused image I can.

Before when I had the 60 watt Halogen bulb in there I was able to get a very nice and clear arc image right at the triplet. I measured everything so that when I put the MH bulb in I would know right where to put it. However things do not always go like we want them to. ((Sorta like prom night back in '96)) Anyway, my question is, how do you all go about tweaking with the MH lamp on and in the PJ?

Meaning, When its on its HOT HOT HOT. I have it mounted so that I can unscrew the two screws holding it and move it, but I can't get the screwdriver near enough to do it. LOL ((Yeah, bad planning I know.)) And you can't turn the lamp on and off without messing it up (from what I have read), So I have to leave it on for at least and hour each time. IS THERE A FASTER WAY??? ohnoes.gif ohnoes.gif ohnoes.gif

So yeah, could you guys and girls just let me know what the steps you took were?

measure the center of the of the smaller bulb to the first fresnel. now use that to measure from the mh lamp center of to the first fresnel. That seems to me would do your focus if you only changed the bulb. gl

I always where one of those thick yellow dish washing gloves. blink.gif

Keeps the heat off your hand and then you can tweak the light as you wish.

I also where polarized sunglasses to keep from going blind and to make it where I can see the projection differences better since I wasn't blinded by the light smile.gif

Cool cool. I have been wearing my shade 5 cutting glassses, and my welding gloves. I just dont really know how much you can mes around with the bulb while its running? I mean can you mess it up by moving it alot, or are they very stable while running?

I have a peice of sheet metal against the side of the box and magnets epoxied to the mogul base. I wear my sunglasses and use the wife "ove glove" I have been tweaking for ever and it seems as if I am just going to have to live with out of focus corners. rolleyes.gif

found this on a glass blowing site:

The Ove Glove is a product of Joseph Enterprises, and their website is http://www.chia.com/oveglove.html. The Ove Glove is made of DuPont Nomex and DuPont Kevlar, and withstands contact temperatures up to 480F. This is not rated to touch hot glass! But our goal in wearing it is to keep the intense radiant heat away from the hand. They have an interesting video on their website, showing the use of the Ove Glove in the kitchen and at a barbeque.

These gloves are available from many sources. Please not that these are sold individually (NOT in a pair). But this is OK for glassblowing, as you are just trying to protect your hand that is working close to the hot glass.

These gloves are available for many sources, typically for between $15 and $20:

Now that is thinking! I should have thought of that because I put up a set of curtains last X-mas with magnets at the last minute. LOL Thanks for the idea.

dont thank me I stole the idea from somebody else here laugh.gif

LOL Yeah, its like people thanking me for the new sled design. I found it in a PLOG from like a year ago and liked it. laugh.gif

Thanks for letting me know about. How bout that?

O.K. I have another quick question and instead of starting a new thread will just tack it on here:

I lined the camera up as best I could and snapped this pic with the triplet off. Is that enough out of alignment to make a huge difference in the brightness of the PJ??? Enough to warrant pulling the box apart and heavily modding it?
