I'm considering relocating from Ottawa, Ontario to Vancouver, BC. I plan on loading what little I own onto a pallet and transferring my belongings via a trucking company.

I don't know if I'll leave towards the end of summer or wait until next spring.

[edit]
Now that I think about it, September is right around the corner and I think it'd be best if I start out next spring/summer.

I'll be traveling by myself and my plan is to bus or fly to Calgary (the Prairies are likely to bore me to death) and then walk along the TransCanada Trail to Vancouver. I figure it might take me anywhere from two to two and a half months, if I take it leisurely. I figure if this guy can do it in two and a half months, I shouldn't have any trouble. 'Course, I won't have the network of family and friends that he fell back on during his trip.

If anybody has had any experience with long distance hiking (even weekend long hikes), could you offer some advice based on your personal experience?

I have hiked the Appalachian trail..It is best if you have the abilty to "let your mind wander"...but I would not trade the experience for the world...

Something about travelling in the older footsteps of man that makes me travel light and appreciate the small calories in life...wink.gif

My advice would be, Don't Do It!!! tongue.gif

Seriously though, I have attempted long distance hikes before, and I would love to be able to say I have achieved my goals, but alas I'm clearly not up to it. I've done a few weekend backpacking trips, (10 to 15 miles a day), and they have always been enjoyable.

I'm far from experienced enough to give advice though, but I wish you every success.

So your going to walk away from your own life. My advice is to stop when you hit salt water biggrin.gif
