Hi All,
I'm new here.

I started by stripping my 19 inch wide screen HP w1907 monitor. I got through it OK. I had to cut away the plastic.

I managed to pull out the LCD glass without issue.

In testing I plugged it in ( I had the board laying on the frame ) and I guess I shorted something. Can you look at the attached pic, that is where the spark came from.

Do I need the pannel? Can I power/use the LCD without it...?

That is the power supply board that supplies power to the LCD controlelr baord (the smaller board that has the VGA/DVI inputs on it, has connctions to the menu board, etc.
It also has on it the inverter section for the backlight, which you wouldn't need if using it for a projector.

Technically, you can do without it, but to do so you'd have to figure out which wires on the cable between the power supply and the controller board provide which voltages, and provide those via some other power supply. That could be nearly impossible to determine without the power supply actually working.
Some of the wires wouldn't even necessarily be needed, as they would be related to the inverter functions, but, again,. determining that could be a real pain.

Maybe you can find a replacement power supply board for it, or take the power supply off of the mounting, and determine what you actually might have damaged, and just replace those components, or it might even just be a fuse that is blown.

Good Luck!

There is only one bridge (set of wires) between the smaller board and the larger one.

The power seems to be the red wires.

1. VCC5V
2 . VCC5V
3. GND
4. GND

Note this monitor came with speakers.

I've tried to turn the monitor on, but I cannot get it to turn on now.

How would I go about testing the fuses? Is there a tool I can get? Visually I cannot see anything.

TIA.

Here is - a better look at the bridge.

I had a spare ViewSonic VP930b sitting around. I decided to strip that this AM. Got it working! However, it is not the monitor I wanted to use. I really wanted to use the HP w1907 because of the wide screen format and because I don't believe it has the anti-glare film (I didn't want to remove the anit-glare - that looks hard!).

I was looking at the power that is sent to the LCD control board on the ViewSonic. It looked the same - so I decided to try it with my HPw1907. And it worked!!!!

Very difficult to take a picture of, but I did manage. See attached.

I'm using a linux machine http://www.ubuntu.com/ desktop edition:

The image you see in the attached is the default pic of the 'Hardy Heron'

This was my first step, now I wait for the parts.
